PDS TECH INC is currently looking for several PLC / Robotics Controls Engineers in Washington.
PLC/Robotics Programmer This position will be responsible for designing, programming and installing robotic systems and the associated interfacing with other factory control systems including PLCs (programmable logic controller) and HMI (human-machine interface) / SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) software. Must have proven experience in with any of the following robotics: ABB, Adept, Fanuc, Kuka, Motoman, Nachi, Seiko, Sankyo, etc. Must be able to perform system design, programming, simulation and testing, and start-up. This position will be responsible for robot sizing, torque/speed calculation, and specifying products for each application.
SUMMARY Programming, start-up and debug of automation equipment. Requires in depth knowledge of ladder, logic, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic circuitry and solid understanding of mechanical sequencing of machinery.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Interprets mechanical sequence and controls drawings and writes ladder logic to customer specifications. Verifies machine build to match drawings.
Verifies all peripheral equipment is in place, functional and safe to operate.
Verifies that machine was powered up correctly.
Works with electricians, pipe fitters and builders to check hardware for correct build, piping wiring and operation.
Verifies that all safeties are in place and operational.
Checks for correct wiring of all interfaces to peripheral equipment.
Works with robot programmers to establish correct PLC-Robot interface.
Loads ladder logic and configures PLC hardware.
Debugs ladder logic to match correct manual and automatic sequence.
Works closely with project management, controls and customer to make sure machine operation meets the customer’s requirements.
Works with robot programmers, pipe fitters and builders to achieve cycle time.
Makes sure machine goes through successful 20 hour run and customer buyoff.
Provides updated drawings to controls department.
Provides hardcopy and disk of all programs to controls and to documentation department.
Implements changes and verifies correct completion.
Understands and follows safety & environmental regulations and identifies safety/environmental concerns.
Adheres to the Quality Systems and participates in continuous improvement.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university, or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Lead engineer is responsible for –
Overseeing technical teams daily allocation of work in line with the project plan and the customer
Support both internal teams and customer in resolving integration/ commissioning issues
Advise both internal teams and customer of best practice and H&S requirements
Assist engineers with technical trouble shooting, fault finding and training in system requirements.
Provide daily, weekly reports to project team/ Project Manager
Assist and work with other team leaders in coordinating work to ensure on-time delivery of the project
Advise both internal and external teams on delays, material or design changes/ requirements related to specific team
Assist in Project sign off/ buy off including production support and training with customer teams.
Ensure all engineers within team are fully supported, working within the requirements of the project and compliance with the customers’ expectations.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in programming leadership as well as the ability to develop and implement standard engineering practices, as well as provide detailed documentation upon project completion. This person will be the project technical lead and may be responsible for some project management activities. A minimum of 5 years experience in a similar position is required.
