Mechanical Design Engineer (Aerospace)

Description:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree (BS) in engineering from an accredited institution.

• Six years of mechanical engineering or electro-mechanical experience developing automotive or aerospace components and systems

• Three years of project engineering experience

• No relocation benefit is offered for this position. Only candidates residing within 50 miles of Irvine, CA will be considered for this position.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

• This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering mechanical, electrical or aerospace engineering

• Master's degree in Engineering mechanical, electrical or aerospace engineering

• 5 years of experience in the design and development of aerospace fluid management components (fuel, hydraulic or air) with fuel component experience

• Knowledge/skills in CAD modeling using a major software package (e.g., CATIA V5, SolidWorks, ProE, or UG-NX)



POSITION CRITERIA

• Working knowledge of aerospace fuel systems and/or pumps, valves, pressure/flow regulators, and/or other applicable fluid management hardware, such as hydraulics or environmental control system (ECS) components.

• Thorough knowledge of product applications, product design techniques, engineering processes, and engineering standards.

• Ability to generate technical proposal write-ups, technical procedures, and reports. Experience to be considered and approved by the hiring manager.

• Ability to lead assigned project, including oversight of design engineers, drafting personnel and test technicians.

• Ability to follow directions from a supervisor, understand and follow established procedures, accept constructive criticism, lead and manage others, and work under stress.

• Must be able to work with other personnel in a team environment to identify and solve problems as well as define and implement process improvements.

• Knowledge/skills in CAD modeling using a major software package (e.g., CATIA V5, SolidWorks, Pro-E, or UG-NX). CATI A V5 experience preferred.

• Proficient using MS Office tools.

• Experience with ISO 9001, AS 9100, or equivalent quality system.

• Sufficient knowledge to evaluate and interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.

• Ability to strongly influence selection of materials and processes used in all airframe products.

• Ability to recommend programmatic decisions significant to product costs.

• Ability to make recommendations on product designs, strongly influence product costs, and capital investments.

• Ability to lead technical discussions and presentations for internal and external customers, including design reviews, non-advocate reviews and technical coordination meetings.



JOB DESCRIPTION

• Provides technical expertise/knowledge to Engineering Management and Marketing in determination of customers' new or modified product needs.

• Leads technical reviews (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR, VRR, FDR, etc.) and project status reviews for internal/external customers and management.

• Leads multiple engineering disciplines to provide conceptual designs responsive to customer needs. Must consider cost, weight, and performance advantages over state-of-the-art and competition. Recommends major programmatic decisions on approach to new or modified designs. Collaborates with Program Management to track program progress and coordinate hardware design and development activities.

• Functions as the engineering lead for technical proposals responding to customer specifications and other defined needs.

• Responsible for the completion of internal deliverables such as technical concepts, trade studies, and analyses.

• Reviews and analyzes field problems, manufacturing problems, and associated reports to resolve product issues and incorporate lessons learned.

• Establishes developmental, qualification, and acceptance test procedures.

• Provides engineering support of component testing, including the analysis and interpretation of test data; initiates design changes and corrective actions as required.

• Communicates and coordinates with external customers (e.g., airframe manufacturers, defense agencies, etc.) in the analysis and resolution of specialized engineering problems. Additional support to Program Management as required.

• Provides mentoring and guidance to less experienced project engineers as directed by Engineering management.

• Drives continuous improvement efforts within the organization.
