In this hands-on role, you’ll help fabricate, assemble, and test critical components for man-rated spaceflight hardware—work that directly supports missions where quality, safety, and precision are non-negotiable.

Role Overview

As a Fabrication Technician, you’ll support fabrication, assembly, and testing across mechanical, electrical, and composite systems in a highly controlled, AS9100-certified environment. Your work will help ensure that aerospace hardware meets strict safety, performance, and reliability standards.

Job Type: Full-Time, Consultant (12 Months)
Location: New Orleans, LA 70129
Schedule: Monday–Friday; candidates must be available for all shifts
Pay Rate Starting at : $27.29  per hour


What You’ll Do Day to Day

  • Perform machine setup, machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, tube bending, and extrusion tasks

  • Execute composite lay-up, fabrication, and assembly operations

  • Assemble precision mechanical and electro-mechanical components

  • Assemble, modify, repair, and install power plants, drive trains, and subassemblies

  • Perform soldering on electronic and avionics products; assemble and install wire harnesses

  • Prepare test articles, fixtures, and data collection devices; support functional and fit testing

  • Apply basic organic chemical conversions and routine coatings for corrosion protection

  • Read and interpret specifications, process documents, 2D drawings, and 3D CAD models

  • Work in FOD-sensitive and fracture-critical environments, maintaining strict clean-as-you-go discipline

  • Use calibrated precision measuring tools and report nonconformances

  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to resolve design and manufacturability issues

  • Participate in FOD walks, 5S activities, and tool control procedures

  • Perform work at heights, on mobile platforms, and in confined spaces as required


Required Qualifications (Top Skills)

  • Mechanical aptitude: Strong hands-on skills with tools, fixtures, and mechanical systems, including precise measurement and troubleshooting

  • CAD literacy: Ability to interpret 2D drawings and 3D CAD models (such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD)

  • Relevant hands-on experience: Background in automotive, military, aerospace, or similar FOD-sensitive, ruggedized environments

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED with typically 1+ year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position requires use of information or access to facilities subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). These regulations may limit access of controlled technologies: 1) to U.S. Persons, including U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, and other narrow categories including refugees and asylees, or 2) to certain foreign nationals that have received an export license.                                               
 


Preferred Qualifications

  • Military experience demonstrating discipline and familiarity with safety-critical standards

  • 3+ years of fabrication, assembly, or electrical/instrumentation experience (metalwork, wiring, soldering, riveting, welding, or sheet metal)

  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams

Pay Details: $27.29 per hour
