Description:
The Mechatronics Engineering Department combines mechanical engineering and controls engineering, software design, electronics hardware, brakes, sensors, pneumatics, and electrical harness design. Within the Mechatronics Engineering Department, the Wiring Design Group is responsible for developing electrical logic and harness design standards and solutions, designing, documenting, and maintaining electrical wiring schematics, diagrams, and harnesses, ensuring connectivity between devices in the cab, on the engine and on the chassis, and providing electrical common parts solutions for all client North America brands. The Electrical Engineer works with the Mechatronics, Western Star and FCCC electrical engineering teams to develop and document electrical wiring schematics, diagrams and harnesses. They will also work with the interior and exterior strategic leads, and packaging teams to ensure that all designs are implemented into the various client North America vehicle models in a consistent, robust, cost effective manner.

Job Functions
- Apply Engineering and CAD principles to design vehicles that are safe, reliable, serviceable and competitive
- Create and maintain vehicle electrical schematics, wiring designs, electrical wiring harness designs, and support the development and improvement of related design/release standards and processes.
- Design wiring harnesses, including voltage drop, fusing requirements and overall system validation.
- Work closely with other departments within client and suppliers to integrate new technology into all facets of electrical designs of client vehicles.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's/Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering disciplines is required.
- Knowledge of DC electrical circuit analysis required.
- Experience with Mentor Graphics Capital Harness System is required. MUST HAVE!
- Experience with SMAGARD and Engineering Client is preferred. (Not Required, but nice to have)
- Experience identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems is required.
- Understanding of engineering processes & downstream impacts is required.
- General knowledge of automotive electrical systems is strongly preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as personal computer office automation skills are required.
- The candidate should have a high level of organizational skills.
- The candidate should be a self-starter with the ability to continually prioritize a constant flow of new work.

The Wiring Design Group is responsible for implementing wiring designs into our various truck models based on feature specifications for features which require electrical wiring. The Wiring Design Group is responsible for the standards and processes which support those activities. Also, the Wiring Design Group is responsible for the selection and release of individual electrical components which are used in wire harnesses and cables and the standards which control those items.

With the advancement of technology, the Mechatronics area of the automotive and heavy truck industry is growing rapidly. This position is a good starting point for anyone interested in Mechatronics systems engineering in the automotive industry and more specifically, automotive wiring.
The candidate will be required to work onsite, but there is a slight possibility for offsite work based on team coordination and communication.

Primarily this role will create and maintain vehicle electrical schematics, wiring designs, electrical wiring harness designs, including voltage drop, fusing requirements and overall system validation. From that knowledge base, they will be utilized in the other listed Job Functions. A certain portion of this role will require the candidate to have a ‘head down’ ability to get the work completed once the requirements for a given project or task are determined. However, good, direct written and verbal communication skills are a must. The ability to continually evaluate and prioritize multiple assignments is a must. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse group of people is a must.
