Stress Engineer

Description:
Position Summary:
The Senior Stress Engineer provides static strength technical support for the airplane development and certification programs. Coordinates and assists in the development/documentation of static strength methods, analysis and tests. Provides review and approval of engineering data including drawings, discrepancy records, reports and process specifications.

Education:
· Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Civil Engineering.

Skills and Abilities:
· Minimum of 10 years of structural experience with a B.S. degree or 8 years of structural experience with a M.S degree.
· Comprehensive knowledge of classical analysis and finite element techniques is required.
· Familiar with Nastran, and Femap or Patran, Microsoft office products.
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
· Knowledge of regulatory requirements of 14CFR Part 23 & Part25 desired.
· Knowledge of airplane structure is required – both Primary and Secondary.
· Good verbal and written communication skills.

Essential Functions:
· Detailed analysis of individual detail parts, assemblies and installations based on known loading conditions.
· Coordinates requirements with other stress engineers and FAA Structures DERs to ensure the integrity and service-life of the aircraft.
· Reviews aircraft component load data for static and fatigue analysis.
· Develop finite element model analysis.
· Individual must be able to conduct their own substantiation analysis without supervisor’s assistance. Use of conventional, as well as PC tools is required.
· Close coordination between designer engineers and other stress engineers will be required during the design and certification of the aircraft.
· Develop and coordinate design requirements.
· Provide stress review and approval of engineering drawings.
· Provide stress review and approval of discrepancy records (Material Review Board).
· Provide stress review for design standard, process specs, and engineering procedures.
· Prepare and check certification substantiation reports.
· Support structural testing facility.

Environment:

· May require exposure to hot and cold working conditions outside or within an aircraft hanger.
· May be exposed to moderate to extreme noise conditions.

Physical Demands:
· Frequently lifts, carries, moves and positions objects weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted, when performing essential job functions.
· Typically, bends, stoops, crouches, ascends, and descends on a regular basis, when performing essential job functions.
· Constantly observes, assesses, inspects, communicates, detects, conveys, and exchanges information, when performing essential job functions.
