MP&P Engineer 1

Location: El Segundo, CA
Duration: 6 Months

Job Description:
Client Research & Technology is seeking an Entry-level Materials & Processes Contractor in El Segundo, California within the Materials and Processes (M&P) team supporting client Space and Missile Systems.

The desired candidate will work in a laboratory hands-on environment conducting analysis and test support in anomaly evaluations along with performing technical services on various client products to support design, production, application and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and structural systems.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Use analytical problem-solving skills to resolve problems for company suppliers and provide technical support.
- Coordinate with other M&P team members to perform elements of an anomaly evaluation and material qualifications including developing test plans, executing laboratory tests, determining and performing evaluations independent to test plans or established procedures, and documenting results in a report.
- Work with various non-destructive and destructive testing.

Evaluation techniques may include:
- Visual inspection and microscopy,
- X-Ray fluorescence spectroscopy,
- Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy
- Material qualification and recertification
- Chemical analysis
- Proof of quality
- Optical properties analysis
- Contamination analysis
- Metallography/cross-sectional analysis
- Mechanical testing

- Perform receiving and recertification evaluations of adhesives, tapes, and mechanical parts
- Perform evaluations to test plans or established procedures, and documenting results in a report
- Develop research projects to resolve problems and improve manufacturing processes.
- Apply knowledge of material properties to develop, select, or recommend parts, materials and processes that meet the environmental and regulatory requirements for chemical, environmental, mechanical, and electrical systems.
- Utilize knowledge of chemical lab instrumentation, contamination control principles, environmental health and safety principles, and inorganic and organic chemical processing.

Education / Experience:
Required: Bachelor's degree in an engineering classification from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry.
