Description:
Now hiring: L2 Commissioning Technician - Controls / Rockwell Automation in Vernon, TX — 12-month contract via CTS International.
CTS International is hiring two Level 2 commissioning technicians for a liquid-cooled data center program in Vernon, Texas. The work is moving, placing and commissioning prefabricated liquid-cooled compute skids on a three-building campus. Technical direction comes from the equipment OEM; our client manages the crew on site.
Level 2 covers installation verification and pre-start readiness. Technicians complete assigned checks and records; the commissioning agent retains final Yellow Tag acceptance. Energization and startup are Level 3 activities and sit outside this scope.
Schedule is Monday through Friday on site in Central Time, 40 regular hours plus 20 hours of overtime per week. Start is targeted for the second week of December 2026. The team scales from 2 to 8 technicians by March/April, so early hires are positioned for the lead roles. Conversion to full-time employment with the client is contemplated in the contract.
Scope of work:
READINESS - Review factory and integrator test reports, release status and open issues. Reconcile skid and asset IDs against the installation package. Identify site checks and repeat testing required after movement or installation changes.
MOVEMENT AND PLACEMENT - Perform assigned movement and positioning from staging to the approved destination using the handling plan and qualified operators. Verify condition, route readiness, orientation, clearances and final location against approved layouts. Document condition after placement.
MECHANICAL AND COOLING - Inspect supports, anchorage, piping and hoses, valves, sensors, leak detection, labels, cleanliness and access against approved drawings and OEM requirements. Verify the responsible trade's flushing, pressure and leak test and fluid quality records against project acceptance limits.
ELECTRICAL AND CONTROLS - Check panels, ratings, grounding and bonding, routing, labels and control terminations. Verify required torque and electrical test records. Perform assigned checks only within demonstrated qualifications and approved isolation procedures. Escalate deficiencies.
ROCKWELL AND BUILDING SYSTEM INTERFACES - Verify Allen-Bradley PLC and remote I/O hardware, field wiring and network connections. Compare device IDs, addresses, firmware records and point mapping against approved lists. Use Studio 5000 and applicable HMI/SCADA tools for authorized diagnostics. Perform continuity, point-to-point and communication checks as assigned in approved L2 procedures. Trace assigned skid interfaces to BMS/BAS, mechanical controls and, where assigned, the power monitoring system - temperature, pressure, flow, leaks, status, alarms and interlocks. Use approved BIM layouts to verify placement and provide field redlines and asset data. Follow OT access and change controls; logic, firmware, address, setpoint or protection changes require approval and a recovery plan.
RECORDS AND COMPLETION - Maintain asset-linked checklists, dated results, pass/fail criteria, authorized photos, calibration references, redlines, deficiencies, corrections and retest evidence. Report daily progress and blockers and weekly hours. Submit an organized L2 readiness package with required signatures.
Compensation is $65-85 per hour depending on experience, plus overtime. On a 60-hour week that is approximately $4,550-$5,950 gross before per diem.
