Senior Human Factors Engineer – Flight Deck Design
Description:
Seeking an experienced Senior Human Factors Engineer to support flight deck design, evaluation, and certification in Wichita, Kansas or Montreal, Quebec. Opportunities may be contract, contract-to-hire, or direct placement. Hybrid arrangements are subject to confirmation for the specific opening and may change.
Responsibilities:
- Conceptualize, design, evaluate, and support certification of flight deck interfaces through requirements development, prototyping, simulation, analysis, and usability testing.
- Apply cognitive ergonomics to the design, testing, and analysis of human-machine interfaces.
- Support requirements development, task analysis, and human-error analysis.
- Develop human-machine interface simulations and prototypes.
- Prepare and maintain human factors documentation for new aircraft, significant cockpit modifications, and sustaining programs.
- Conduct user-centered design activities and scenario-based flight deck and user-experience evaluations.
- Work with flight crews to assess cockpit physical and cognitive usability.
- Support certification activities related to 1302 and other applicable human factors regulations.
- Work across multiple aircraft programs and platforms.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science, plus a degree in Cognitive Ergonomics, Psychology, Industrial Design, or equivalent.
- Approximately 10 years of relevant aerospace experience, including aircraft systems, flight operations, regulatory requirements, and design standards such as MIL-STD, SAE ARP, and ARINC.
- Practical experience in cognitive ergonomics, including cognition, perception, decision-making, workload, situation awareness, and human error.
- Knowledge of physical ergonomics, including anthropometry, strength, reach, and vision.
- Proficiency with computer-based tools and the ability to learn new software independently.
- Ability to plan and conduct experiments, evaluations, and validation and verification tests.
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills in English; French is an asset.
- Strong organization, initiative, technical judgment, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively and adapt to changing priorities.
