Technical CAD Designer II - Controls Designer

PDS Tech Commercial is hiring a Technical CAD Designer II to play a key role in the design and execution of advanced Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) projects that help strengthen and modernize power grids around the world.
In this position, you'll contribute to the development of sophisticated protection and control systems for large-scale energy infrastructure projects, working alongside highly skilled engineers and industry experts. As a Technical CAD Designer II, you will lead and support the design of electrical protection and control systems for complex power transmission projects.
Develop electrical control system design packages, including:
Physical layouts
Schematics
Logic and control diagrams
Wiring and interconnection drawings
Grounding plans
Cable schedules
Design custom protection and control solutions for:
Fixed Series Capacitors (FSC)
Static VAR Compensation (SVC) systems
Synchronous Condenser (SC) solutions
Create and maintain accurate Bills of Material (BOMs) for project designs.
Ensure consistency, quality, and accuracy across all engineering documentation.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, technical specialists, and offshore design teams to meet project schedules and performance objectives.
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to control system standards, documentation, and engineering processes.
Assist with cost reduction efforts through design optimization, automation improvements, vendor selection, and process enhancements.
Support quality systems and compliance initiatives, including ISO 9001 requirements.
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline and at least 2 years of relevant experience
OR
Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and at least 5 years of controls design experience
Experience creating electrical and controls drawings.
Proficiency with:
AutoCAD Electrical
AutoCAD 2D Design
Bill of Materials (BOM) development
Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
Strong understanding of standard drafting practices.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team environment.
Experience designing protection and control systems for electrical power, industrial, or utility applications.
Familiarity with industry standards and codes, including:
IEEE
IEC
ANSI
NEC
CSA
NESC
Experience interpreting technical requirements and developing complete design packages with limited customer specifications.
Demonstrated ability to balance quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
