PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a highly skilled Assembler to join our team in Clearwater, Florida, partnering with a leader in the aviation industry.

This is not an entry-level soldering position. We're looking for an experienced professional with at least 5 years of soldering experience in a manufacturing environment who understands the precision, patience, and attention to detail required when working with surface mount technology.

If you're confident behind a microscope, skilled at identifying and correcting solder defects, and experienced with SMT rework equipment, this could be an excellent opportunity to put your expertise to work on sophisticated electronic assemblies.

What You'll Do

As an Assembler, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Perform precision soldering and rework on surface mount technology (SMT) components.
  
• Use a microscope to verify proper component placement and orientation.
  
• Manually align components before soldering and perform post-reflow inspections and touch-ups.
  
• Identify and correct soldering defects, including:
  
  
  
  • Poorly wetted solder joints
    
  • Solder voids and insufficient solder
    
  • Solder shorts and bridges
    
  • Misaligned components and leads
    
  • Tombstoned or billboarded components
    
  • Other defects that may occur during SMT operations
    
  
  
  
• Use Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment to help identify solder defects and distinguish false calls from actual issues.
  
• Read and follow detailed work instructions and identify standard SMT components.
  
• Operate rework equipment such as hot air pencils, hot plates, and BGA removal equipment, including ERSA or similar systems.
  
• Review circuit boards under X-ray inspection to identify solder defects on bottom-terminated components.
  
• Maintain exceptional quality and attention to detail while performing repetitive, precision-focused tasks.
  
• Work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where overtime may occasionally be required.
  

Required Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must have:

• At least 5 years of soldering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  
• Demonstrated experience working with surface mount components and SMT processes.
  
• Experience using electronic rework equipment.
  
• Ability to perform detailed soldering, inspection, and rework under a microscope.
  
• Experience identifying and repairing a variety of solder defects.
  
• Familiarity with Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment.
  
• Experience reviewing electronic assemblies using X-ray inspection.
  
• Ability to read instructions and identify standard SMT components.
  
• Ability to sit for extended periods and maintain concentration while completing detailed, repetitive tasks.
  
• Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
  
• IPC-A-610 certification, active or expired, is required.
  
• IPC J-STD-001 certification, active or expired, is required.
  

Preferred Qualifications

We're especially interested in candidates who also have:

• Experience running, soldering, and tacking down jumper wires on redesign boards.
  
• Experience with BGA removal and rework equipment, including ERSA or comparable systems.
  
• Strong defect-recognition and troubleshooting abilities.
  
• A demonstrated history of reliability and stability within manufacturing or electronics assembly environments.
