Summary:

Produces high quality structural designs ready for manufacturing, on time and at the right cost.

Employs Structural Design core competencies to develop structural definition of the aircraft.

Engages engineering, manufacturing, program, and customer support teams to complete designs.

Participates in design reviews and aircraft build support.

Interacts with suppliers and prepares technical coordination memos.

Prepares engineering reports and documents design projects using online knowledgebases and tracking tools.

Develops and captures lessons learned, standard work, and best practices.

Uses CATIA V5 or equivalent 3D CAD to develop, document, and release primary and secondary aircraft structural designs.

Applies DFMA, producibility, maintainability, cost optimization, 3D MBD, GD&T, engineering release, and configuration management.

Leads structural design projects through concept, certification, release, manufacturing support, installation, and entry into service.

Requirements:

Must be a U.S. Person (as defined by ITAR).

Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft structural design and certification principles including loads development, structural substantiation, durability, damage tolerance, fatigue, and corrosion prevention.

Demonstrated expertise in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), producibility, maintainability, cost optimization, and development of cost-effective design solutions.

Advanced proficiency in 3D Model Based Definition (MBD), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), engineering release processes, and configuration management.

Extensive experience using CATIA V5 or equivalent 3D CAD systems to develop, document, and release primary and secondary aircraft structural designs.

Proven ability to lead structural design projects through the complete product lifecycle including concept development, certification, release, manufacturing support, installation, and entry into service.

Demonstrated success collaborating with Stress, Materials & Processes, Certification, Manufacturing, Procurement, Suppliers, and other cross-functional organizations.

Ability to serve as a technical focal for structural design activities, establish work plans, prioritize assignments, and mentor less experienced engineers.

Preferred: Experience developing structural modifications for FAA, EASA, military, or other certified aircraft platforms including metallic and composite structures.

Preferred: Experience with CATIA V5 applications including Part Design, Assembly Design, Sheet Metal, Functional Tolerancing & Annotation (FT&A), Composite Part Design (CPD), and Knowledge-Based Engineering (KBE), and with Teamcenter, ENOVIA, SmarTeam, or equivalent PLM systems.
