Description:
CTS International has an immediate 6-month FPGA On-Target Test Engineer 4 opening in El Segundo, CA at $106/Hour.
As an FPGA On-Target Test Engineer, you will support the integration, verification, and validation of FPGA- and system-on-chip-based products in a hardware laboratory environment. You will work with FPGA design, simulation verification, systems engineering, and integration teams to develop and execute requirements-based tests on target hardware.
This role provides an opportunity to work across the FPGA development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, test planning, hardware bring-up, test execution, data collection, troubleshooting, and technical documentation. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with complex digital hardware and laboratory test equipment and will be able to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Position Responsibilities Develop, review, and execute requirements-based verification and validation procedures for FPGA and SoC-based hardware. Perform on-target testing of FPGA designs using engineering and production-representative hardware. Analyze system and hardware requirements and translate them into test objectives, test cases, procedures, and expected results. Support FPGA and SoC design integration, hardware bring-up, and laboratory troubleshooting. Configure test setups, instrumentation, cables, interfaces, loads, and support equipment required for on-target testing. Use laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, power supplies, and protocol or interface analyzers. Verify digital interfaces and system functionality, identify anomalies, and support root-cause analysis. Develop scripts and tools to automate test execution, data collection, analysis, and reporting. Support testing of communication and control interfaces, which may include Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, and other avionics or embedded-system interfaces. Perform testing involving analog and mixed-signal inputs and outputs, as applicable to the product. Document test methods, procedures, results, discrepancies, technical findings, and verification evidence. Work with FPGA designers, verification engineers, systems engineers, hardware engineers, and program teams to resolve issues and maintain test progress. Participate in test readiness reviews, peer reviews, design reviews, and technical interchange meetings. Support regression testing and repeatability assessments following FPGA design updates or hardware changes. Maintain configuration control of test scripts, test procedures, laboratory setups, and test data. At the Level 4 position, provide technical leadership, review test artifacts, establish test strategies, and mentor less-experienced engineers. Basic Qualifications Required Skills and Experience A Bachelor of Science degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent non-U.S. qualifications. Experience with FPGA/SOC technologies, digital hardware, or embedded computing architectures in a hardware laboratory environment. Experience developing and executing requirements-based verification or validation tests. Experience troubleshooting digital hardware, FPGA-based systems, or embedded electronics. Ability to interpret hardware, FPGA, interface, and system requirements and develop corresponding test procedures. Experience documenting test plans, test procedures, test results, discrepancies, and technical conclusions. Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams. Ability to communicate technical information clearly in written and verbal formats.
Preferred Qualifications Desired Skills and Experience Level 4: 10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience Experience in avionics, aircraft systems, aerospace, or other safety-critical engineering environments. Practical experience with Python scripting for test automation, data collection, data processing, or analysis. Experience with LabVIEW and/or MATLAB. Experience with C or C#. Experience with analog signals, signal integrity, or mixed-signal testing. Experience with MIL-STD-1553. Experience with ARINC 429. Experience with LVDT, DDV, and/or SOV devices or interfaces. Experience with Ethernet interfaces, including 10/100 Mbps and 1 Gbps implementations. Experience developing automated laboratory test environments. Experience with requirements management, test management, defect tracking, and configuration management tools. Experience interpreting schematics, interface control documents, timing diagrams, FPGA documentation, and hardware test specifications. Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field. Experience supporting verification, qualification, acceptance, or production testing.
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
