As the Mechanical Design discipline lead, you will play a key role in the successful execution of complex engineering projects from concept through commissioning and closeout.
Lead mechanical design activities for large-scale capital projects supporting multiple sites and business units.
Develop comprehensive mechanical design packages including:
3D models and virtual plant layouts
Equipment arrangements
General arrangement drawings
Fabrication and installation details
Equipment supports and access platforms
Create safe, efficient, and constructible designs that meet project, operational, maintenance, reliability, and safety requirements.
Coordinate design interfaces with piping, structural, electrical, controls, and instrumentation disciplines.
Lead design reviews, model reviews, clash detection activities, and constructability assessments.
Provide technical leadership and oversight to contractors, consultants, vendors, fabricators, and installation partners.
Support field verification, construction activities, commissioning, startup, and resolution of design-related issues.
Develop and maintain mechanical design standards, specifications, templates, libraries, and CAD/3D design tools.
Review and approve drawings and models for technical accuracy, completeness, and quality.
Present project scope, technical solutions, design decisions, risks, and status updates to project teams and leadership.
Mentor less-experienced designers and promote consistent engineering and design best practices.
Ensure all design deliverables comply with applicable codes, standards, company requirements, and project specifications.
Associate degree in Design, Drafting Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent education and experience combinations will be considered.
Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible mechanical design experience.
Advanced proficiency with 2D CAD and 3D modeling systems used for equipment layout, mechanical detailing, and plant design.
Strong understanding of:
Mechanical design principles
Equipment layout and arrangement
Materials and fabrication practices
Installation methodologies
Industry codes and standards
Ability to interpret engineering specifications, process documents, vendor drawings, technical calculations, and field information.
Demonstrated experience leading design reviews and resolving complex technical issues.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Strong communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed for project support.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, chemical processing, or highly regulated manufacturing environments.
Experience supporting large capital projects and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Background in commissioning support, field implementation, and constructability reviews.
Proven experience mentoring engineers or designers.
Experience developing engineering standards, specifications, and best practices.
