Lead Advanced Automation and Control System Development as a Sr Advanced Electrical Engineer!



PDS Tech Commercial is seeking an experienced Sr Advanced Electrical Engineer to architect, develop, test, and support advanced PLC and automated test systems. This role is ideal for a highly technical engineer with deep expertise in PLC programming, LabVIEW development, controls integration, and troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical systems.



You'll play a key leadership role in designing next-generation automation solutions while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop high-performance test and control systems.





Top Must-Have Skills



 6+ years of PLC programming experience across multiple hardware platforms



 Experience with:




  • Emerson
  • Allen-Bradley
  • Phoenix Contact
  • Similar industrial PLC systems


 Ability to architect and write PLC code from scratch using:




  • Function Blocks
  • Add-On Instructions
  • Object-Oriented Programming approaches


 Experience troubleshooting:




  • Electrical control systems
  • Mechanical control systems


6+ years of experience with:




  • LabVIEW
  • VeriStand
  • Python
  • .NET


 Proven ability to work independently in a cross-functional engineering environment





What You'll Do



PLC Architecture & Development




  • Architect, develop, and test robust PLC programs for new and existing equipment.
  • Design scalable controls architectures using Honeywell engineering standards and best practices.
  • Develop object-oriented control code utilizing function blocks and add-on instructions.
  • Create programming solutions from concept through deployment.


Automation & Control Systems Engineering




  • Define controls system requirements and develop detailed functional specifications.
  • Support integration of hardware, software, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Lead implementation and startup activities for new equipment and automation platforms.
  • Ensure systems meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements.


LabVIEW & Software Development




  • Maintain and enhance existing LabVIEW-based systems.
  • Develop software solutions supporting test, automation, and data acquisition applications.
  • Utilize:

    • VeriStand
    • Python
    • .NET


  • Support ongoing system improvements and customer requirements.


Troubleshooting & Technical Leadership




  • Lead troubleshooting efforts involving:

    • PLC code
    • Electrical systems
    • Mechanical systems
    • Test equipment


  • Diagnose root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for controls and automation systems.


Cross-Functional Collaboration




  • Work closely with engineering, operations, manufacturing, and customer teams.
  • Support project execution from concept through implementation.
  • Communicate technical solutions and recommendations effectively.




Required Qualifications





  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in:




    • Electrical Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Automation Engineering
    • Control Systems Engineering
    • Computer Engineering
    • Related Engineering Discipline



  • 6+ years of PLC programming experience across multiple hardware platforms.




  • Demonstrated expertise with:




    • Emerson PLCs
    • Allen-Bradley PLCs
    • Phoenix Contact PLCs
    • Similar industrial automation systems



  • Experience writing PLC applications utilizing:




    • Function Blocks
    • Object-Oriented Programming Concepts
    • Add-On Instructions



  • Experience developing controls software from the ground up.




  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting experience.




  • 6+ years of experience with:




    • LabVIEW
    • VeriStand
    • Python
    • .NET






Preferred Qualifications




  • Experience with:

    • Git
    • TeamCenter
    • Software Configuration Management Tools


  • SQL database design and querying experience.
  • Experience working with:

    • DAQs
    • Oscilloscopes

  • Experience supporting automated test systems and data acquisition systems.
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills.

Pay Details: $60.34 to $64.56 per hour
