EH&S Specialist

Description:

Be the Safety Leader Who Keeps Operations Running as an EH&S Specialist

Location: Charlotte, NC | Payrate: $34/hour | Schedule: 2nd shift; 4:30pm to 12:30am

**Training Schedule will be 1st shift: 8:00 am to 4:30pm for first 2 weeks**

PDS Tech Commercial is partnering with an industry leader in HVAC Manufacturing to hire an experienced EH&S Specialist for a critical second-shift position. This is more than a safety role—it's an opportunity to serve as the trusted Environmental Health & Safety professional and sole emergency medical responder, protecting employees and ensuring operational excellence when independent judgment matters most.

If you're a confident decision-maker who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is passionate about workplace safety, employee well-being, and continuous improvement, we want to hear from you.

Make an Impact Every Shift

As the sole EH&S presence during second shift, you'll be entrusted with safeguarding employees, maintaining compliance, and responding to workplace incidents with professionalism and confidence. Working independently, you'll make real-time decisions that directly impact employee safety and business operations, serving as the critical link between off-shift production and daytime leadership.

What You'll Do

Lead Safety on the Manufacturing Floor

  • Monitor production activities through continuous observation to verify compliance with safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Identify unsafe equipment, conditions, or work practices and immediately exercise delegated stop-work authority when necessary to protect employees.

  • Coach team members on safe work practices in real-time while fostering a culture of accountability and safety awareness.

  • Conduct routine inspections of equipment, emergency systems, workplace conditions, and safety controls, maintaining audit-ready documentation.

  • Complete safety documentation, records management, and procedure development during off-shift hours for daytime review and implementation.

  • Partner with second-shift employees to identify hazards, concerns, and opportunities for continuous improvement that may not be visible during daytime operations.

Provide Occupational Health & Emergency Medical Response

  • Serve as the site's sole trained emergency medical responder during second shift.

  • Independently assess workplace injuries and illnesses, administer treatment within your certified scope of practice, and determine when emergency medical services or transportation are required.

  • Maintain readiness of first aid supplies, emergency response equipment, and medical resources across the facility.

  • Track occupational health surveillance requirements for second-shift employees and coordinate required evaluations with daytime providers.

  • Identify workplace exposures and health risks unique to off-shift operations and communicate findings for corrective action.

Investigate Incidents & Support Continuous Improvement

  • Respond to workplace incidents while balancing employee care with objective incident investigation.

  • Secure incident scenes, document evidence, photograph conditions, and gather witness statements before shift end.

  • Prepare comprehensive investigation packages for the client's EH&S leadership team to support regulatory reporting and corrective action planning.

  • Maintain detailed written shift reports every shift—including those without incidents—to ensure complete visibility into second-shift operations.

  • Exercise sound judgment by resolving issues independently while escalating matters requiring management authorization or additional resources.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of Environmental Health & Safety experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.

  • Current certification authorizing independent emergency medical assessment and treatment in an occupational setting, consistent with applicable state licensure and assigned responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently for an entire shift while making sound safety and medical decisions without on-site supervision.

  • Strong written communication skills with experience preparing detailed reports and documentation.

  • Proven ability to confidently stop work or remove equipment from service when employee safety is at risk.

  • Ability to remain objective while both responding to and investigating workplace incidents.

  • Comfortable working throughout an active manufacturing facility, including elevated platforms, confined or restricted spaces, outdoor environments, and while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience serving as the primary EH&S representative during off-shift manufacturing operations.

  • Previous experience conducting workplace incident investigations and root cause analysis.

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and manufacturing safety compliance programs.

  • Experience supporting occupational health initiatives and employee wellness programs.

  • Strong leadership, coaching, and employee engagement skills with the ability to influence safe behaviors across all levels of the organization.
