MIG Welder
Location: Groveport, OH (Onsite)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM (Overtime expected, may extend to 4:30 PM)
Pay: Starting at $26.00/hour (Final rate based on experience and weld test results)
PDS Tech Commercial is hiring a Welder (GMAW/MIG) for a leading distributor of plumbing, PVF, waterworks, fire protection fabrication products, HVAC equipment, and industrial supplies.
This role focuses on welding carbon steel outlets onto steel pipe used in fire sprinkler systems. Most production welding is completed using automated welding equipment, but successful candidates must have hands-on MIG welding experience to understand weld quality requirements, identify defects, and perform repairs when needed.
This is a production-driven fabrication environment where safety, quality, and efficiency are essential.
Weld carbon steel outlets onto steel pipe for fire sprinkler applications
Operate automated and semi-automated welding equipment
Perform manual GMAW (MIG) welding on carbon steel pipe and fabricated assemblies
Complete specialty welding tasks including spool pieces and flange assemblies
Inspect finished welds for quality, alignment, dimensions, and defects
Repair weld discontinuities as needed
Read and follow production work orders and instructions
Use tape measures and measuring tools to verify accuracy
Maintain a clean and safe work area
Report equipment issues and safety concerns
Meet production and quality standards
Minimum 1 year of MIG (GMAW) welding experience
Minimum 1 year of machine operation experience
Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure
Basic computer skills
Experience working in a manufacturing, welding, or fabrication environment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Reliable, safety-focused, and willing to learn
Carbon steel pipe welding experience
Pipe fabrication experience
Fire sprinkler industry experience
Experience with outlet welding, flange welding, or spool fabrication
Ability to identify weld defects and perform repairs
Candidates will complete a hands-on weld test during the interview process.
Interview Test:
Weld 1" outlets onto 2" steel pipe using GMAW (MIG)
Welds evaluated through visual inspection
Required PPE for Testing:
Welding hood/helmet
Welding jacket
Welding gloves
Jeans
Steel-toe or composite-toe boots
Employment Requirement:
Successful completion of a Manual GMAW 2G Pipe Welding Qualification Test during the first week of employment
Stand for extended periods
Lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
Bend, kneel, reach, and work around fabrication equipment
Work safely around welding equipment, overhead cranes, and moving materials
