HVAC Chiller Set Up Technician
Location: Charlotte, NC
Shift: 1st Shift | Pay Rate: $27.46/hr, some OT required
PDS Tech Commercial is seeking an experienced HVAC Chiller Set Up Technician to support HVAC testing operations in Charlotte. This is a hands-on role for technicians who know commercial chillers, enjoy troubleshooting equipment, and take pride in keeping systems running safely and efficiently.
You'll work with water-cooled and air-cooled chillers, controls, pumps, and related HVAC equipment while supporting testing, setup, calibration, and day-to-day operations.
Set up and operate commercial water-cooled and air-cooled chillers
Support HVAC testing activities by preparing equipment and test environments
Calibrate instruments used to measure temperature, pressure, flow, and electrical performance
Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and control system issues
Work with chiller controls, VFDs, pumps, boilers, and valve configurations
Read and interpret electrical, refrigeration, and equipment schematics
Monitor equipment performance and document test results
Support preventive maintenance activities and equipment reliability
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
High School Diploma, GED, Technical Certificate, or Skilled Trades Apprenticeship
3+ years of commercial HVAC or chiller experience
Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting water-cooled and/or air-cooled chillers
Experience with chiller control systems such as Carrier, Trane, York, Daikin, or similar platforms
Strong electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration troubleshooting skills
Experience working with 460V equipment, VFDs, pumps, or boilers
Ability to read and interpret electrical and refrigeration schematics
Experience using precision measuring instruments and calibration equipment
Associate's Degree or AAS in a related technical field
EPA Certification
Experience with loop tuning and closed-loop control systems
Experience reading blueprints and technical drawings
Knowledge of lockout/tagout and arc flash procedures
Experience coaching or assisting other technicians
Hands-on HVAC testing and equipment environment
Frequent standing, walking, equipment setup, and troubleshooting
Work around chillers, refrigerants, pumps, electrical equipment, and varying temperatures
Exposure to industrial testing and laboratory conditions
