Help Design and Support Critical Utility Infrastructure as a CAD Drafting Technician!

Pay Rate: $30.07/hr

PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a detail-oriented CAD Drafting Technician to support the development of construction-ready electrical distribution designs. In this role, you'll prepare design drawings, maintain GIS records, perform engineering calculations, coordinate permits, and support utility construction projects while ensuring compliance with standards and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with AutoCAD and GIS experience looking to grow within utility design and engineering support.

Key Responsibilities

• Create construction-ready design drawings using AutoCAD, GIS tools, maps, aerial imagery, sketches, and engineering data.
  
• Produce designs that meet standards and NESC requirements.
  
• Maintain and update Smallworld GIS databases, schematics, and Field Installation Records (FIRs).
  
• Perform predefined engineering calculations for distribution design and construction.
  
• Interpret and integrate engineering and geographic data from multiple sources.
  
• Coordinate permit requests with municipalities and government agencies.
  
• Submit requests for inspections, surveys, locates, potholes, and easement verification.
  
• Create material lists based on construction drawings.
  
• Process and coordinate GIS system updates.
  
• Perform field verification and accuracy checks of maps, exhibits, and records.
  
• Support major projects and assist with minor distribution system designs.
  
• Recommend process improvements and support GIS application development.
  
• Assist with training and knowledge sharing within the team.
  

Required Qualifications

• Experience in one or more of the following:

• AutoCAD experience required
  
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

• Experience working with GIS systems and databases preferred
  
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
