Summary:
Performs new detail design for mechanical flight controls systems for out-of-production commercial aircraft.
Supports Continued Operational Safety Program (COSP) and Safety Related Problem (SRP) projects as the Responsible Engineer.
Performs troubleshooting and resolution of in-service issues for airplane components including gearboxes, cable system components, pilot controls (column, wheel, rudder pedals, switches), torque tubes, linkages, ball-screws, and various sensor types.
Supports development and documentation of airplane components for Primary Flight Controls (pilot controls, elevators, horizontal stabilizer, rudder, ailerons, spoilers, speed-brakes) and High Lift Systems (leading edge flaps, slats, trailing edge flaps).
Collaborates with other organizations including Aerodynamics Performance, Stability and Control, Structures, Flight Deck Crew Operations, Electrical Systems, Systems Stress, and Supplier Management.
Performs requirements definition, various types of analysis, and uses CAD/CAM systems such as CATIA.
Uses math modeling tools such as Simulink and EASY5 for mechanical systems analysis.
Conducts or participates in design reviews as subject matter expert and formulates path forward with findings.
Engages in supplier coordination, defines verification methods including component, system-level, and airplane-level testing, and participates in testing and certification activities with regulatory agencies.
Requirements:
Must be a U.S. Person (as defined by ITAR).
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry.
5+ years of experience in related engineering roles (Mechanical Flight Controls within the aerospace industry, specifically in commercial airplane programs).
2+ years of experience using CATIA V5, ENOVIA, and/or DELMIA.
2+ years of experience with commercial aircraft program.
Experience in Mechanical Flight Controls design including Primary Flight Controls and High Lift Systems.
Experience with component design including gearboxes, cable systems, pilot controls, torque tubes, linkages, ball-screws, and sensors.
Experience using math modeling tools such as Simulink and EASY5.
Preferred: Current Design Engineering (DE) Approver status.
Preferred: Experience reviewing and approving Service Bulletins.
