PDS Tech Commercial is partnering with a leader in the aerospace industry to hire an innovative Tool Design Engineer. In this role, you'll collaborate with manufacturing, operations, engineering, and suppliers to design tooling that meets demanding quality, cost, schedule, and safety objectives while supporting advanced aerospace production.
What You'll Do
As a Tool Design Engineer, you'll design and develop tooling solutions that improve manufacturing efficiency and support production success.
Key Responsibilities:
Design industrial tooling, jigs, fixtures, dies, gauges, machine attachments, and support equipment for assembly and composite manufacturing.
Develop tooling concepts for new and existing aerospace programs.
Create engineering drawings, layouts, inspection requirements, and verification plans.
Review designs to ensure manufacturability, fit, form, function, and compliance with engineering standards.
Collaborate with manufacturing, operations, vendors, and cross-functional engineering teams throughout the tooling lifecycle.
Manage tooling projects, including schedules, procurement, fabrication, and cost tracking.
Support tooling fabrication by working closely with vendors and inspecting completed tooling for drawing compliance.
Identify design improvements, resolve engineering issues, and support root cause investigations.
Ensure tooling designs meet applicable safety regulations, company standards, and industry best practices.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance quality, efficiency, and manufacturing performance.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or another STEM discipline.
Experience with CAD modeling and drafting, preferably Siemens NX and CATIA.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, and machine shop practices.
Experience preparing and reviewing engineering drawings for completeness, dimensional accuracy, materials, processes, and manufacturability.
Working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018).
Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication, organization, and project management abilities.
High attention to detail and commitment to engineering excellence.
Must be eligible to obtain a Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in aerospace manufacturing.
Experience designing tooling and support equipment for composite part production.
Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
Experience developing tooling Statements of Work (SOWs), design estimates, and supporting vendor selection.
Experience evaluating vendor capabilities for tooling and aerospace manufacturing.
Experience performing stress analysis using hand calculations, FEMAP, or NASTRAN.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
