PDS Tech Commercial is partnering with a leader in the aerospace industry to hire an experienced AI/ML Engineer. This is an opportunity for a highly skilled AI/ML technical leader to drive the development of next-generation autonomous systems, advanced analytics, and mission-focused technologies. 

As the AI/ML Engineer, you will serve as the technical lead for AI/ML development on a fast-paced innovation team. You’ll transform emerging concepts into rapid prototypes, develop advanced machine learning solutions, and help deliver technologies designed to solve complex aerospace and defense challenges. 

What You'll Do 

In this role, you will lead AI/ML initiatives from concept through demonstration by: 

• Serving as the primary day-to-day AI/ML technical expert, guiding development efforts and setting technical direction. 

• Designing and developing advanced machine learning models, including deep neural networks, reinforcement learning systems, and generative AI solutions. 

• Architecting scalable AI/ML systems that integrate with software, hardware, and autonomous platforms. 

• Translating high-level mission objectives into technical requirements, architectures, development roadmaps, and actionable solutions. 

• Building rapid AI/ML prototypes, including data ingestion, feature engineering, training pipelines, model deployment, and evaluation. 

• Developing and optimizing AI architectures, including transformers and other advanced models, for complex applications. 

• Leading the development and integration of signal processing, computer vision, perception, and planning algorithms. 

• Creating validation and testing frameworks to ensure AI/ML solutions meet performance, safety, and compliance requirements. 

• Supporting technical risk management, staffing needs, tooling decisions, and prototype execution plans. 

• Collaborating with software engineers, systems engineers, hardware teams, and subject matter experts to integrate AI/ML capabilities into larger systems. 

• Conducting simulations, modeling, demonstrations, trade studies, and technical briefings for leadership and program stakeholders. 

• Mentoring engineers and helping grow AI/ML capabilities across the organization. 

• Staying current with emerging AI/ML technologies and identifying opportunities to apply innovative solutions within aerospace and defense programs. 

What We're Looking For 

Required Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Engineering, or a related STEM discipline. 

• 6+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering or a related technical field. 

• Experience leading AI/ML development projects and mentoring technical teams. 

• Strong expertise in: 

  • Machine learning principles and practices 

  • AI/ML system architecture 

  • Deep neural networks 

  • Reinforcement learning 

  • Generative AI algorithms 

• Proficiency with machine learning frameworks such as: 

  • TensorFlow 

  • PyTorch 

• Experience implementing advanced AI/ML techniques, including: 

  • Supervised learning 

  • Unsupervised learning 

  • Reinforcement learning (PPO, Actor/Critic) 

  • Generative AI models (Transformers) 

• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with C++, C#, or Java. 

• Experience developing, deploying, and optimizing AI/ML models for real-world applications. 

• Experience with AI/ML validation, testing, and model evaluation frameworks. 

• Ability to work independently, define technical approaches, and operate effectively with evolving requirements. 

• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex AI concepts to technical and non-technical audiences. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field. 

• Aerospace and defense industry experience. 

• Experience building AI/ML capabilities within a small or growing technical organization. 

• Experience with early-stage autonomy research, multimodal sensor fusion, or autonomous systems. 

• Experience integrating ML models into embedded, real-time, or mission systems. 

• Knowledge of MLOps practices, including: 

  • Data versioning 

  • Model validation 

  • ML engineering workflows 

• Experience with Agile and DevOps development environments. 

• Experience with: 

  • GPU programming 

  • CUDA 

  • TensorRT 

  • High-performance computing platforms 

  • Edge AI or explainable AI (XAI) 

• Familiarity with cybersecurity and regulatory requirements for AI/ML systems in aerospace and defense. 

• Experience with telemetry, computer vision, simulation, modeling, and heterogeneous data analysis.
