Customer Support Engineering Specialist
Join PDS Tech Commercial in an exciting opportunity supporting an industry-leading transportation technology organization. As a Customer Support Engineering Specialist, you'll play a critical role in ensuring cutting-edge onboard systems operate reliably and efficiently for customers across the rail and transportation sector. This hands-on position combines technical troubleshooting, electronics repair, field service, and customer interaction, making it ideal for an experienced technician or engineer who thrives on solving complex challenges.
📍 Location: Melbourne, FL | 100% Onsite
🕒 Schedule: 1st Shift | Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (40 hours/week, overtime available as needed)
đź’˛ Pay Rate: $30.00 per hour
As the technical expert customers rely on, you'll provide comprehensive support for onboard systems through both shop-based and field service activities.
Perform bench testing, diagnostics, validation, and board-level electronics repairs using specialized test equipment and approved procedures.
Install systems and equipment at customer sites, ensuring optimal performance and functionality.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve equipment issues both remotely and onsite.
Respond to emergency service requests and equipment failures with professionalism and urgency.
Provide technical guidance and support to customers regarding installation, operation, calibration, maintenance, and repair procedures.
Collaborate with engineering teams to identify product improvements and enhance system reliability.
Design and build test fixtures to support departmental testing and validation activities.
Develop and deliver technical training programs for internal teams and customers.
Maintain accurate service documentation, technical reports, customer communications, timesheets, and expense reports.
Utilize ticketing systems to document service activities and ensure timely resolution of customer concerns.
Serve as a trusted technical resource while building strong customer relationships.
Associate degree or two-year technical degree from an accredited technical institution.
Minimum 4 years of experience in:
Electronics repair
Technical support
Field service
Or a related technical environment
Hands-on experience testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic equipment in a shop or laboratory setting.
Strong problem-solving abilities and the capability to work independently on moderately complex technical issues.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
Ability to travel to customer locations as required.
Ability to work onsite five days per week on 1st shift.
Willingness to work occasional overtime when business needs require.
Stand out with any of the following:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Locomotive or rail industry experience.
Knowledge of locomotive air brake systems.
Experience working with QNX and/or Linux operating systems.
IPC soldering certification.
Network communications experience.
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Strong understanding of system-level troubleshooting and diagnostics.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb as needed.
Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
Comfortable working in shop environments, field locations, and customer sites.
Ability to use hand tools, testing equipment, and repair tools safely and effectively.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
