Description:
Chipton-Ross is seeking multiple Outside Machinist & DOD for a contract opportunity in Newport News, VA.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
o High school diploma/equivalent.
o Four years commercial/naval experience as a First-Class Machinist.

Recommended Skills:
o Familiarity with OSHA regulations relative to the shipbuilding industry.
o Installation of hull inserts.
o Familiarity with fasteners.
o Ability to comprehend complex drawings, blueprints, diagrams, and sketches.
o Use of lapping and blue checking tools. Liner sizes/soft foot.
o Working knowledge of shipbuilding terms and nomenclature.
o Operate lathe.
o Valve overhaul (steam and wog).
o AC & refrigeration repair.
o Installation of lift check valve.
o Steam plant cleanliness knowledge.
o Air conditioning hydro.
o Installation of main engine, propulsion plant machinery and equipment.
o System cleanliness grade knowledge.
o Installation of aircraft elevator.
o Testing main engine.
o Hydrostatic testing.
o Installation of anchor windlass.
o Installation of mast and antenna.
o Lube oil flushing.
o Installation of arresting gear.
o Installation of noise equipment.
o Use of precision instruments (Ruler/Micrometer).
o Installation of ballast tanks.
o Refueler.
o Drilling/tapping.
o Test boiler operations.
o Optical alignment.
o Hydrostatic testing of systems.
o Install boiler tube replacement.
o Installation of sea valves.
o System Grooming.
o Operate boring bar.
o Installation of VALVE AND PUMP packing.
o Valve overhaul.
o Operate cargo crane.
o Operate portable milling/drill machine.
o Generator and steam turbine work.
o ALRE.
o Pump/motor INSTALLATION AND alignment (M-179 & JX).
o Operate centrifugal pump.
o Install turbine.
o Fit and blue check liners.
o Installation of condenser/heat exchanger tube.
o Operate watertight compartment.
o Flange makeup.
o Installation of deck ordinance.
o Installation of winch.
o Installation of steam valves.
o Installation of diesel.
o Installation of weapons elevator.
o Shafting and bearing work.
o Distilling plant test.
o Installation of hydraulic components.
o Installation of low/high pressure air compressor.
o Installation of deck or hanger doors.
o Understanding of basic ship systems.

* PPE training means general requirements, eye and face protection, head protection, foot protection, hand and body protection, hearing protection and body harness-personal fall arrest systems (PFAS) and position device systems.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
High school diploma/equivalent is required.
School must be accredited.
