Summary:
Perform manual and/or selective soldering of printed circuit boards (PCBs), including through-hole, surface mount (SMT), BGA, QFN, CSP, and other component types.
Assemble and solder electronic components while ensuring compliance with strict quality and reliability standards.
Conduct visual inspections using microscopes, Automated Optical Inspection (AOI), and other inspection tools to identify solder defects such as bridges, cold joints, tombstoning, insufficient wetting, and voids.
Apply and adhere to IPC standards, including IPC-A-610, IPC J-STD-001, and IPC-2221/2222 throughout the assembly process.
Verify solder paste, flux, and assembly materials meet required specifications and production standards.
Recommend and support improvements to soldering processes, tooling, and work instructions to improve quality and efficiency.
Support mixed technology board assembly, including SMT and through-hole components.
Follow all safety procedures, including proper handling of hazardous materials and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain high attention to detail while supporting production schedules and quality requirements.
Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to troubleshoot issues and improve manufacturing performance.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED required; technical or vocational electronics assembly training preferred.
Minimum 2 years of hands-on solder assembly experience in a production environment.
Strong knowledge of IPC standards, including IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001.
Ability to solder and inspect a wide range of component sizes (0201 1206, BGAs, QFNs, CSPs, etc.).
Experience with soldering tools and equipment including soldering irons, hot air guns, reflow ovens, and wave solder machines.
Strong visual inspection skills with experience using microscopes and AOI equipment.
Experience working with mixed technology boards (SMT and through-hole).
Knowledge of lead-free and RoHS-compliant manufacturing processes.
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, communication, and teamwork abilities.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs as needed.
Must be a U.S. Person (as defined by ITAR).
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and yield analysis.
Experience identifying and resolving solder defects in high-reliability electronics manufacturing environments.
