PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a skilled Metallurgical Lab Technician to support our partnership with a leader in the aviation industry in Monroe, NC. In this hands-on role, you will perform metallurgical and material verification testing that ensures products and processes meet strict specifications, customer requirements, and industry standards. Your work will directly support production readiness, quality compliance, and continuous improvement in a cutting-edge additive manufacturing environment.

What You’ll Do

As a Metallurgical Lab Technician, you will play a critical role in validating materials and maintaining product integrity. Responsibilities include performing specimen preparation, sectioning, mounting, polishing, and etching for microstructural evaluations. You will conduct hardness, density, tensile, fatigue, elemental analysis, and other required tests using established procedures.

You’ll also maintain laboratory equipment calibration and readiness, track consumable inventory, document accurate traceable data within MES and QMS systems, and communicate any out-of-spec conditions to engineering and quality teams. In addition, you’ll support PPAP, MSA, and FAI requirements, assist with failure analysis activities, and participate in 5S, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree with 2+ years of relevant experience, or university degree in a related field, or 4+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
• This position requires use of information or access to facilities subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). These regulations may limit access of controlled technologies: 1) to U.S. Persons, including U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, and other narrow categories including refugees and asylees, or 2) to certain foreign nationals that have received an export license.                                               
   
• 2+ years of experience preparing metallurgical specimens including sectioning, mounting, polishing, and etching
• 2+ years of experience in metallurgical testing, material testing, laboratory operations, or quality/inspection in a metals environment
• Ability to operate precision instruments and measurement tools with strong manual dexterity
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods during testing activities
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to following controlled procedures

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with atomic spectroscopy and gas combustion analysis
• Strong chemistry background, especially ICP analysis
• Experience in additive manufacturing or metal powder production environments
• Familiarity with microstructural evaluation, hardness testing, density analysis, or special process validations
• Experience using MES/QMS systems for digital data capture and documentation
• Knowledge of powder handling, sampling, or testing methods
• Strong organizational skills with a continuous improvement mindset

Location: Monroe, NC 28110
Job Type: Full-Time Consultant (12-Month Assignment)
Schedule: Monday–Friday | First Shift | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pay Rate: $27.50 per hour
