PDS Tech Commercial is partnering with a leader in the aviation industry to hire a talented Tooling Design Specialist in El Segundo, CA. In this role, you will help design the critical tools, fixtures, jigs, gauges, and support equipment used to manufacture next-generation aerospace products across land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace. Your expertise will directly influence production quality, safety, efficiency, and program success.
What You’ll Do
As a Tooling Design Specialist, your responsibilities will include:
Developing tooling concepts and support equipment for new and existing aerospace programs
Designing industrial tools, dies, drill and assembly jigs, fixtures, machine attachments, and production equipment
Creating engineering drawings, inspection requirements, and verification plans
Partnering with Tool Designers to develop and finalize detailed drawings
Reviewing designs for manufacturability, fit, form, function, and cost efficiency
Managing tooling projects including schedules, procurement, budgets, and fabrication timelines
Supporting vendors during fabrication and inspecting tooling for drawing compliance
Collaborating with manufacturing, operations, and engineering teams to meet quality, cost, and delivery goals
Designing safe, efficient tooling layouts and manufacturing processes
Identifying and mitigating safety risks in compliance with company and regulatory standards
Supporting root cause investigations, non-conformance resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline
Experience with industry-standard design tools such as NX CAD and CATIA
Knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication processes, and machine shop practices
Experience with drawing release criteria, dimensional accuracy, materials, processes, and drafting standards
Strong understanding and application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018)
Knowledge of weld symbols and engineering drawing interpretation
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organization and time management abilities
High attention to technical detail
Must be eligible to obtain a Security Clearance.
This position requires use of information or access to facilities subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). These regulations may limit access of controlled technologies: 1) to U.S. Persons, including U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, and other narrow categories including refugees and asylees, or 2) to certain foreign nationals that have received an export license.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
Experience designing and fabricating special tooling and support equipment
Ability to evaluate vendor capabilities for tooling and aerospace production needs
Experience creating tooling statements of work (SOW) and design estimates
Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
Project management experience
Experience with stress analysis and finite element analysis (FEA)
Professional Engineering License
Active DoD Secret Clearance within the last 5 years
Schedule: Monday–Friday | First Shift | 9x80 Schedule
Pay Rate Starting at $33.49 per hour

Pay Details: $33.49 per hour
