Software and Hardware Senior Engineering Specialist (SWEL)
PDS Tech Commercial is partnering with a global leader in the aviation industry to hire a Software and Hardware Senior Engineering Specialist (SWEL). As a Senior Engineering Specialist within Software and Electronics (SWEL), you will serve as a key technical authority responsible for reviewing supplier-developed airborne software and electronic hardware systems to ensure compliance with company standards and global regulatory requirements.
Work Location: Hybrid role based in (2 days onsite per week, subject to change). Candidates will sit in Wichita, USA.
Review and assess supplier airborne software and electronic hardware designs for technical and regulatory compliance.
Participate in preliminary and critical system design reviews.
Evaluate supplier certification plans for airborne software and electronic hardware.
Review FPGA, ASIC, and PLD hardware designs as well as embedded software solutions.
Conduct technical and process audits at supplier facilities.
Perform safety-of-flight reviews to support aircraft safety objectives.
Assess software and hardware test results, analyses, and determine final compliance status.
Lead resolution of safety, technical, or compliance issues with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Prepare and review design compliance reports and certification documentation.
Support the evolution of the SWEL roadmap and future engineering capabilities.
Mentor and guide less experienced engineering professionals.
University degree in Electronics, Software, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.
Minimum 15 years of technical engineering experience, including 10+ years in aeronautics.
Minimum 5 years of FPGA/ASIC development and/or embedded software development for aerospace applications.
Thorough working knowledge of airborne software and hardware guidance and means of compliance, including:

DO-248B/C
DO-254

EASA CM-SWCEH-001 / 002
FAA AC 20-115D / AC 20-152A
FAA Orders 8110.49A / 8110.105A
Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS or JAMA.
Working knowledge of programming languages including C, C++, Ada95, Assembly, Python.
Knowledge of hardware description languages and embedded computer architectures.
Familiarity with operating systems and real-time executives.
Experience working with civil aircraft programs and airworthiness authorities.
Membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
Proven leadership qualities including accountability, integrity, adaptability, and initiative.
Experience leading supplier audits and certification activities.
Strong mentoring and coaching background.
Expertise in cross-functional stakeholder management.
Experience driving process improvements and engineering roadmap initiatives.
