PDS Tech Commercial is partnering with a leader in the aviation industry to hire a highly analytical Materials Engineer. In this role, you’ll dive deep into materials performance, uncover root causes of failures, and help ensure the reliability of advanced aerospace systems. Your work will directly impact safety, innovation, and mission success across cutting-edge aviation technologies.
Conduct failure analysis on materials and hardware to determine root causes and failure modes
Perform materials characterization and detailed analysis
Analyze weld joints and evaluate structural integrity
Execute materials testing in accordance with industry standards and internal requirements
Inspect printed wiring boards for defects and anomalies
Utilize advanced laboratory tools (SEM, optical microscopes, spectroscopy, X-ray equipment)
Analyze flight hardware and components to support reliability and performance improvements
Document findings and provide recommendations to engineering and production teams
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering (or Physics with a materials background)
Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment such as scanning electron microscopes, optical microscopes, spectroscopy tools, and X-ray systems
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
This position requires use of information or access to facilities subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). These regulations may limit access of controlled technologies: 1) to U.S. Persons, including U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, and other narrow categories including refugees and asylees, or 2) to certain foreign nationals that have received an export license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with aerospace materials such as aluminum, titanium, and steel
Knowledge of manufacturing and treatment processes (rolling, forging, heat treatment, welding, corrosion)
Experience with industry standards (ASTM, ASM, NASA, MIL specifications)
Strong attention to detail and technical reporting skills
