Pay Rate Starting at : $94.23 per hour
PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a Computer Systems Architect to support advanced aerospace and defense programs that deliver mission-critical capabilities. In this senior-level role, you’ll help architect, integrate, and sustain complex computer and networked systems that directly support national security objectives.
You’ll work hands-on in a collaborative lab environment, applying modern engineering practices—Model-Based Engineering, DevSecOps, Agile, and automation—to drive innovation, resilience, and operational excellence.
As a Computer Systems Architect, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Working closely with engineers and technicians in a lab environment to design and integrate system solutions
Reviewing, analyzing, and translating technical requirements into end-to-end system architectures
Advising on the integration of emerging industry technologies into existing system designs
Implementing engineering changes and system upgrades as required
Completing network configurations and coordinating with peers, SMEs, and government engineers
Supporting system security requirements, including STIG implementation and compliance
Providing technical leadership and guidance across system design, sustainment, and modernization efforts
Supporting occasional travel (up to 10%) as program needs require
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or a related STEM discipline with 5+ years of experience
(An additional 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)
Advanced, in-depth knowledge of Red Hat and/or other Linux operating systems
Experience utilizing Splunk
Knowledge of STIGs and STIG implementation, including DNS (Linux BIND)
Scripting and programming experience (Bash/Shell, Ansible, Python, or similar)
Full on-site availability in San Diego, CA
Ability to travel up to 10%
Must be eligible to obtain a Security Clearance.
This position requires use of information or access to facilities subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). These regulations may limit access of controlled technologies: 1) to U.S. Persons, including U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, and other narrow categories including refugees and asylees, or 2) to certain foreign nationals that have received an export license.
Experience with imaging, backup, and restore tools (e.g., Clonezilla, Linux dump)
Experience leading internal programs and delegating tasks across engineering teams
Hands-on experience with containers and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift)
Strong experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM, Hyper-V, RH-V)
Experience designing, implementing, and sustaining Linux/Unix systems
Working knowledge of networking concepts, including iSCSI connectivity
Ability to work independently, track milestones, and report progress on critical deliverables
Experience mentoring junior engineers and driving process and technology improvements
Flexibility to support alternate schedules (2nd shift, RDO Fridays, or occasional weekends)
Work on high-impact aerospace and defense programs supporting global security
