Design Systems That Enable Mission Success

PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a Computer Systems Architect to support advanced aerospace and defense programs that deliver mission-critical capabilities. In this senior-level role, you’ll help architect, integrate, and sustain complex computer and networked systems that directly support national security objectives.

You’ll work hands-on in a collaborative lab environment, applying modern engineering practices—Model-Based Engineering, DevSecOps, Agile, and automation—to drive innovation, resilience, and operational excellence.

What You’ll Do

As a Computer Systems Architect, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Working closely with engineers and technicians in a lab environment to design and integrate system solutions

• Reviewing, analyzing, and translating technical requirements into end-to-end system architectures

• Advising on the integration of emerging industry technologies into existing system designs

• Implementing engineering changes and system upgrades as required

• Completing network configurations and coordinating with peers, SMEs, and government engineers

• Supporting system security requirements, including STIG implementation and compliance

• Providing technical leadership and guidance across system design, sustainment, and modernization efforts

• Supporting occasional travel (up to 10%) as program needs require

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or a related STEM discipline with 5+ years of experience

  • (An additional 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)

• Advanced, in-depth knowledge of Red Hat and/or other Linux operating systems

• Experience utilizing Splunk

• Knowledge of STIGs and STIG implementation, including DNS (Linux BIND)

• Scripting and programming experience (Bash/Shell, Ansible, Python, or similar)

• Full on-site availability in San Diego, CA

• Ability to travel up to 10%
  
  Must be eligible to obtain a Security Clearance.

• This position requires use of information or access to facilities subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). These regulations may limit access of controlled technologies: 1) to U.S. Persons, including U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, and other narrow categories including refugees and asylees, or 2) to certain foreign nationals that have received an export license.                                               
   

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with imaging, backup, and restore tools (e.g., Clonezilla, Linux dump)

• Experience leading internal programs and delegating tasks across engineering teams

• Hands-on experience with containers and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift)

• Strong experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM, Hyper-V, RH-V)

• Experience designing, implementing, and sustaining Linux/Unix systems

• Working knowledge of networking concepts, including iSCSI connectivity

• Ability to work independently, track milestones, and report progress on critical deliverables

• Experience mentoring junior engineers and driving process and technology improvements

• Flexibility to support alternate schedules (2nd shift, RDO Fridays, or occasional weekends)
