Payloads Design Engineer (Levels 2–4) – Shape the Interior Experience of Modern Aircraft
Location: North Charleston, SC
Job Type: Full-Time | Consultant (6 Months)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, First Shift (8:00 AM – 3:00 PM)
Pay Rate Starting at: $56.22 per hour (commensurate with level and experience)
PDS Tech Commercial is partnering with a leader in the aerospace industry to hire Payloads Design Engineers (Levels 2, 3, and 4) to support advanced aircraft interior programs. In this role, you will help design, develop, and certify interior payload systems that directly impact passenger comfort, safety, and functionality. From early configuration through production and certification, your work will play a key role across the entire product lifecycle.
As a Payloads Design Engineer, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality interior systems. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Assisting with the development, integration, and documentation of structural and interior payload system requirements
Supporting system design for aircraft interiors, including closets, partitions, stowage bins, headers, and associated wiring
Assisting with testing activities to validate and verify that systems and components meet requirements and specifications
Supporting supplier performance, test, and production activities to meet program objectives
Providing engineering support to the production floor during first-of or complex builds
Developing and improving design and analysis processes, tools, and methods
Investigating emerging technologies to support future interior product concepts
Creating, modifying, and maintaining payload system and component designs using 3D CAD tools
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution
Relevant engineering experience based on level:
Level 2: Bachelor’s + 2+ years, or Master’s + 0+ years
Level 3: Bachelor’s + 5+ years, or Master’s + 3+ years
Level 4: Bachelor’s + 9+ years, or Master’s + 7+ years
Experience using 3D CAD/modeling tools such as CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, Autodesk Inventor, Pro-E, 3DX, or similar
Level 2: 2+ years
Level 3: 5+ years
Level 4: 5+ years
Experience working within cross-functional engineering and production teams
Preferred Qualifications
Aerospace engineering experience, including design and engineering release processes:
Level 2: 2+ years
Level 3: 5+ years
Level 4: 9+ years
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to meet assigned schedules and delivery deadlines
Understanding of FAA Title 14 Part 25 and/or EASA certification requirements (preferred, particularly at senior levels)
