Machinist Experimental

PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a skilled Machinist Experimental to support advanced aviation and experimental aircraft programs. In this role, you’ll work at the forefront of aerospace innovation, machining high-precision components that directly contribute to aircraft development, testing, and performance.
As a Machinist Experimental, you will produce complex, close-tolerance machined parts used in experimental and prototype aviation programs. Your expertise will support engineering, fabrication, and testing teams by translating engineering designs into high-quality machined components that meet exact specifications.
Adhere to all General Work Requirements and quality standards
Verify correct quantities, materials, and prior inspection sign-offs before beginning work
Review and confirm all required engineering and shop documentation for assigned work orders
Assist with planning machining procedures and setting up machines and parts
Set up and verify cutting tools per machine and job requirements
Perform a variety of machining operations, including boring, drilling, milling, tapping, and threading
Machine raw materials to required tolerances and dimensions per engineering specifications
Monitor feeds, spindle speeds, and tool wear, making adjustments as needed
Finish machined parts using hand tools such as grinders, files, and deburring tools
Inspect completed parts to verify compliance with tolerances and specifications
Maintain shop documentation, blueprints, and shop aid tools for applicable equipment
Typically 3 years of diversified machine shop experience and/or equivalent technical training or coursework
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents
Ability to calculate dimensional information for machining operations
Proficiency with precision measurement instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators
Ability to use simple and compound sine tools
Ability to operate both mills and lathes
Experience performing manual and CNC machining operations
Experience machining aerospace or experimental components
Ability to build shop aid tools to enhance machining efficiency
Basic knowledge of material properties for mild steel, stainless steel, titanium, and aluminum
Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision craftsmanship
Ability to deburr, cut, polish, blend, and smooth machined parts
Skilled use of hand tools including grinders, drills, deburring tools, and files
Ability to perform close-tolerance work in accordance with engineering specifications
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
