Software Quality Engineer – Ensure Excellence in Aviation Software
$60–$90/hour (based on experience) | 1st Shift | 9x80 Schedule | 6:00 AM – 3:30 PM
About the Role
PDS Tech Commercial is hiring an experienced Software Quality Engineer to join our client’s world-class aviation engineering team. In this role, you’ll oversee all phases of the software development lifecycle to ensure delivered aircraft software meets the highest standards of design integrity, regulatory compliance, and mission-critical reliability. Your contributions will play a key role in upholding safety, quality, and performance across complex aerospace programs.
Key Responsibilities
Interface with systems and software engineers, test and evaluation teams, and project managers to ensure alignment and compliance.
Review and approve system, software, and test equipment requirements, designs, and documentation for adherence to established standards.
Participate in software change control boards and ensure proper configuration management practices.
Support software process audits and ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate closely with engineering counterparts to maintain compliance with company and program standards.
Mentor and train junior engineers as needed.
Moderate travel may be required to support program audits and supplier oversight.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 11 years of related experience in aerospace or defense software processes (e.g., RTCA DO-178C, DO-278A, DO-254, SAE ARP-4754, MIL-STD-498, etc.).
Experience supporting government or FAA programs preferred.
Working knowledge of audit techniques, software development, and testing methodologies.
Ability to interpret schematic drawings, specifications, and contracts to develop and review systems/software processes.
Hands-on experience in software requirements development, design, and coding (C/C++, Ada, or other embedded languages).
Background or knowledge in embedded software/hardware verification.
Strong communication skills—written, verbal, and technical.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Education
Bachelor’s degree required in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (preferred).
