Description:
Chipton-Ross is seeking a NDT Test Examiner 2 for a contract opportunity in Newport News, VA.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
A candidate must be a certified Nondestructive Test Examiner (ASNT Level III or NAVSEA 250-1500-1 Test Examiner), having fulfilled all prescribed education and experience requirements. Generally, this requires a Bachelors degree in science or engineering, plus 2 years experience as a certified inspector. However, 5 or more years of NDT technical experience (preferably in the shipbuilding industry), where a candidate has demonstrated an equivalent level of theoretical and applied knowledge, may be substituted for the above educational requirement. A candidate must have and be able to apply a demonstrated knowledge of applicable NDT techniques and methods, as well as their physical, chemical and mathematical fundamentals. This position requires proficiency in analytical processes and effective interpersonal and communication skills.
a. UT certification and hours logged with supporting documents
b. Performs required weld inspections and nondestructive tests (UT, MT, PT, visual, dimensional, load tests, etc.) on mechanical, piping or structural components and systems to ensure conformance with the quality requirements.
c. Prior Military Experience HT-4944 VT MT PT UT Inspector
d. Certified Nondestructive Test Examiner certification (ASNT Level III or NAVSEA 250-1500-1 Test Examiner) and 2 years of relevant experience in inspection.

Required Safety Training / Qualifications: Leased Labor Provider Company shall provide documentation (copy of training, records, medical clearances, etc.) on Company Letterhead to Newport News Environmental, Health and Safety Department (O27) for review and approval prior to assignment of employees to work at Newport News. All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE*) is to be provided by the Leased Labor Provider Company. All Personal Protective Equipment provided by the Leased Labor Provider Company shall meet the requirements of OSHA and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and /or as specified by Newport News. 1. Confined Space Entry trained in accordance with OSHA Standards 29 CFR 1915, Subpart B. 2. Hazard Communication trained in accordance with OSHA Standard 29CFR 1915.1200 (1910.1200) (h) - (1) through (3) (iv). 3. Respirator trained and qualified. A Respirator Medical Clearance Examination as required by a Physician. The Respirator Training and Fit Testing will meet the requirements of Standard 29CFR1910.134 and each individual shall be trained in half-face and full-face negative-pressure respirators, MSA COMFO CLASSIC and MSA Ultra-Twin (with MSA approved vapors and dust filter cartridges to be provided for them respirators by the LLPC). Newport News requires the use of a MSA COMFO CLASSIC (approximate weight 12 oz.) and MSA Ultra-Twin (approximate weight 1.5 lbs.) negative-pressure respirators only. Daily use of respirator may occur. 4. Fall Protection/4-D Body Harness-Vertical & Horizontal Lifelines-Beam Clamp trained and qualified in accordance with the following OSHA Regulations; 29CFR1915.159, 29CFR1915.71 (j) (3), 29CFR1915.73 (d), and 29CFR1915.77 (c). Newport News highly recommends the vest-donning type of body harness instead of the step-into-type body harness, with D-Ring in the back. Individuals must be trained (which includes having donned the body harness and demonstrated practical use of the vertical & horizontal lifelines and beam clamp) with the same type fall protection equipment that they are expected to wear on Newport News premises or on off-site Newport News work locations. Body Harness and Vertical & Horizontal Lifelines and Beam Clamps Systems shall comply with the requirements of ANSI Z359.1. NNS may require 60’ Self Retracting Lifelines that are Leading Edge compliant and a Quick Grab. NNS uses the FallTech DuraTech Edge SRL-LE. NNS uses the Miller Rope Grab. This rope grab must fit 5/16” carbon steel wire rope.
5. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE*) trained in accordance with OSHA Standards 29CFR 1915 Subpart I and Hearing Conversation 29CFR 1910.95 (i) (j) (k) (l). 6. Non-prescription and prescription safety glasses must meet the requirements of ANSI Z87, with permanently attached side shields. 7. Hard Hats must be white in color with the Leased Labor Provider Company's name on the front of the hard hat. 8. Hearing protection must be of the muff type (banded or mounted) and must have been trained on their use. Newport News uses the Silenta-NF banded muffs and North Com-fit ear plugs. 9. Audiometric testing which documents proof of individual worker's hearing function. The Leased Labor Provider Company shall ensure those individuals performing audiometric testing meet requirements listed in OSHA Regulation 29CFR1910.95 (g) (3) and that the audiometric test results are fully explained to each individual by the testing firm. The individual shall sign the test reports as proof of having received verbal communication of the test results. 10. The physical work effort expected is demanding. The temperature and humidity extremes that may be encountered are the result of ambient temperature and humidity levels in the work area. PPE training means general requirements, eye and face protection, head protection, foot protection, hand and body protection, hearing protection, and body harness-personal fall arrest systems (PFAS) and position device systems.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Trains, examines and certifies nondestructive test (NDT) personnel, ensuring that NDT personnel are competent and qualified to perform the applicable tests in conformance with Company and contractual requirements. Provides technical support to resolve technical issues, as well as the development, interpretation, adaptation, qualification and implementation of specifications, procedures, processes, etc. Approves NDT procedures and workmanship standards, and ensures the adequacy of the program. Develops and administers NDT personnel training and certification programs. Provides counseling/corrective guidance regarding examination performance, and decertifies or retrains/tests personnel as appropriate. Conducts site monitoring/surveillance of NDT personnel and operations; evaluation of program elements; and product re-inspection activities. Interprets applicable specifications, procedures, and other technical requirements. Compiles and prepares technical and interpretive reports relating to NDT detected workmanship trends; analysis of reject rates; the resolution of problems; and the impact of methodology changes on manufacturing and inspection operations.

Bachelors degree in science or engineering.
Degree must be accredited.

WORK HOURS:
Full-Time 5/40 workweek. 1st shift: 6:00am-4:30pm.
