FAA Upholstery Technician

Location: Brunswick, GA | Pay Rate: $23.32/hour | Schedule: Full-Time, 1st Shift (6am - 4:30pm)

Position Purpose:
The Upholstery Technician I is an entry-level position responsible for fabricating and installing upholstery, cover panels, and making simple patterns for aircraft interiors. Under moderate supervision, the individual will work with design and engineering drawings, along with aircraft specifications, to ensure high-quality interior installations. This role provides opportunities for hands-on training and skill development in the upholstery and carpet trades within the aerospace industry.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Upholstery and Fabrication:
    • Perform technical upholstery functions in compliance with design, customer, FAA, and Company specifications.
    • Complete specific installation and trim tasks according to work order instructions and technical specifications.
    • Install and trim panels, windows, cabin headliners, upper sidewalls, lower side panels, hatch panels, bulkheads, and other interior elements.
    • Cover panels and fabricate simple patterns for upholstery, following precise measurements and drawings.
  • Carpet Installation:
    • Cut and surge carpets to size, ensuring proper fit and finish.
    • Create carpet patterns based on design drawings, ensuring accurate measurements and quality craftsmanship.
    • Complete carpet installation according to specifications, ensuring the final result meets quality standards and design requirements.
  • Material and Parts Management:
    • Utilize the material tracking system to create parts demand, track squawks, and sign off on completed work.
    • Ensure that all necessary materials are ordered, managed, and used efficiently in the upholstery process.
  • Quality Control and Compliance:
    • Ensure all work complies with quality standards, safety regulations, and FAA requirements.
    • Perform regular inspections of completed work to verify adherence to design specifications and Company standards.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient and safe operations.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Assist with the covering and installation of various metal parts and panels as needed.
    • Support team members with other tasks or special projects as assigned.
 
Other Requirements:
  • Communication Skills:
    • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English proficiently to follow work orders, communicate effectively, and complete documentation.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and other technical documentation.
    • Proficient use of measuring tools, such as tape measures and calipers, and ability to perform basic math calculations for accurate cuts and installations.
  • Computer Skills:
    • Must be computer literate with the ability to use software systems for tracking materials, parts, and work orders.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, work in confined spaces, and lift up to 40 pounds as needed during installations.
    • Ability to work in various positions and environments, including restricted areas and small spaces, for extended periods.
  • Shift Flexibility:
    • Must be available to work any shift as required to meet production needs.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using commercial sewing machines, sergers, and/or various hand tools used in upholstery and carpet trades.
  • Carpet installation experience is a plus but not required.
  • Previous experience in an aircraft interiors or related technical field is a plus.
 
Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience:
    • Entry-level position, with preference given to individuals who have experience in upholstery, sewing, or carpet installation in a technical or commercial setting.
    • Experience with commercial sewing machines and upholstery tools is preferred but not required.
  • Skills:
    • Basic understanding of design and engineering drawings.
    • Ability to perform basic math and measurements.
    • Proficiency in using measuring tools and hand tools associated with upholstery and carpet installation.

Pay Details: $23.32 per hour
