Chipton-Ross is seeking multiple Industrial Hygienist 1's for a contract opportunity in Newport News, VA.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE): 0 years with Bachelor of Science degree in related field. Special Requirements: o Bachelor of Science Degree in an Occupational Safety, Physical Science, Life Science, or Engineering field. o Ability to interpret and enforce legal standards. o Ability to work independently with technical instruments. o Ability to physically maneuver on ships wearing hard hat, safety glasses, safety boots, hearing protection, respirator, enter confined spaces. o Respirator Qualified, Confined Space Entry Qualified. o Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Graduate Safety Professional (GSP). o Previous experience with industrial hygiene and / or occupational exposure sampling. o Previous experience interpreting and enforcing legal standards. PPE: Hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel toe work shoes.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Conducts health program in industrial plant to recognize, eliminate, evaluate and control occupational health hazards or environmental factors or stresses arising in or from the workplace or facility that may cause sickness, impaired health or well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers or citizens of the community. Coordinates the monitoring of all workplace environments by analyzing work operations and processes, materials, equipment, and work habits of employees; measures the magnitude of exposure to workers of all environmental hazards by selecting or devising methods and instrumentation suitable for such measurements; and presents specific conclusions and recommendations to appropriate management groups. Prepares rules, standards, and procedures as necessary to promote the healthful conduct of all work practices and the prevention of hazardous or nuisance exposure to the surrounding community. Directs epidemiologic studies to discover possibilities of the presence of occupational disease and to establish or improve threshold limit values or standards as guides for the maintenance of health and efficiency. Assists supervision in educating employees on practices, precautions, and procedures established. Reviews present and proposed standards and surveys new installations. Audits programs and conditions at all facilities; provides written reports of findings with recommendations for improvement (where needed); and follows up on implementation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE): o Previous experience in shipbuilding environment a plus.
REQUIRED EDUCATION: Bachelor's of Science in related field is required. School must be accredited.
WORK HOURS: 5/40 workweek. Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
