Propulsion Consulting Mechanical DER

PDS is seeking an Propulsion Consulting Mechanical DER for an open position in Wichita, KS.
In your role, you will:
  • Review and be familiar with all Propulsion Systems aspects of the customer aircraft (Fire Suppression System, APU System, Fuel System, Engine Controls, Engine and Thrust Reverser Installation).
  • Support coordination of System Safety aspects of the Propulsion Systems with FAA personnel.
  • Review content of previously submitted data and compliance design reports for foreign cert authorities and show applicability to latest FAA rules and amendments.
  • Coordinate with members of the Propulsion Systems Team to validate component, subsystem, and aircraft testing needed to support the safety compliance showing for the aircraft.
  • Submit System Safety documents required for the showing of compliance for the Propulsion Systems aspects of the aircraft on FAA Form 8100-9.
  • Support showing of compliance with all other System Safety aspects of the aircraft impinging on the Propulsion Systems group, such as review, approval, and submittal on 8100-9 of Zonal Safety Analyses, Common Mode Analyses, etc.
  • Support the Propulsion Systems group for all other aspects of the showing of compliance for the System Safety aspects of the Propulsion System as required by the ODA and/or FAA.

As our ideal candidate:

  • Agreeable to be added to customers ODA UM list.
  • You must have previous experience of reviewing and approving   certification testing. Must have a good working knowledge of FAA & EASA Part 25 certification requirements.
  • Previous experience as a Designee (DER/DAD/Company UM).
  • You must have working knowledge of RTCA documents DO-178 and DO-160.
  • Have the ability to interpret software documentation including logic diagrams related to avionics systems.
  • Must have experience with utilizing ARINC data to isolate faults related to system controls software.
  • You will demonstrate good teamwork and English communication skills, both oral and written, and be PC literate.


  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Or Equivalent degree) with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in Avionics systems design and certification OR a minimum of 12 years’ experience if no degree.
