Join our team of experienced lab engineers and technicians in the execution of lab projects as a Lab Engineer in the Metal Lab. You’ll be a part of metallurgical laboratory evaluations and failure analysis of CH-47 Chinook helicopter drivetrain and rotor system components.

Responsibilities:
• Use laboratory equipment to support analyses such as binocular microscopes, scanning electron microscopes, digital photography, hardness testers, non-destructive inspection equipment, metallographic sample prep, X-ray diffractometer, etc.
• Document analysis results in well-structured technical reports.
• Interface with engineers, management, and technical staff.
• Learn how the Materials Engineering group works with other organizations (e.g. Design, Stress and Test), and operates within a large company setting.
• Apply knowledge of metallic materials including physical and mechanical properties, analysis of component fractures, wear, corrosion, and chemistry, as well as microstructure and dimensional evaluations.
• Define requirements for materials, parts and processes used in the manufacture of products.
• Produce specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of materials, parts and processes.
• Maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations.
• Promote standardization across business activities.
• Evaluate emerging technologies for potential application to business needs.
• Develop and qualify new materials, parts and processes to meet requirements.
• Integrate new technologies as appropriate.
• Manage test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements.
• Conduct analysis to determine reasons for failures of materials, parts or processes.
• Implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Design, develop, and qualify computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements.

Qualification:
• Good foundation of knowledge of metallic materials and processes.
• Working knowledge of typical metallurgical analysis laboratory equipment, and be able to enthusiastically learn analysis skills and procedures.
• Comfortable working in various environments including hands-on laboratory and professional office settings.
• Good interpersonal, communication and multi-tasking skills.
• Familiarity with MS Word and Excel.
• Strong technical writing background.
• Able to apply basic engineering and scientific principles to determine solutions to technical problems in support of a project leader.
*U.S. Citizenship is required by law, regulation, executive order, or government contract.

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineering classification.
• Degree(s) must be in either Mechanical, Civil, or Aero/Astronautical Engineering or related discipline.
