Fabrication Specialist A

Description:

Special Project for MAF Program New Orleans

Due to special project, typical skill set is not required.

Job Description:
Performs machine set-up, machining, welding set-up, welding, sheet metal fabrication and extrusion, tube bending and fabrication tasks. Performs composite lay-up, fabrication and assembly tasks. Assembles precision mechanical and electro-mechanical components. Assembles, repairs, modifies and installs various power plants and drive trains. Perform soldering on electronic and avionics products. Assembles and installs wire harnesses and avionics products. Prepares test articles, fixtures and data collection devices to perform various tests. Performs basic organic chemical conversion and paint preparation. Applies routine organic coatings for corrosion protection and appearance requirements. Works on articles of moderate complexity using established drawings and requirements.

Tank Monitor Position Responsibilities:
Performs FOD (foreign object debris) monitoring tasks in support of the SLS Program.
Performs walk downs of FOD Critical areas.
Monitors tool controls and provide coaching on tool and part procedures.
Monitors and logs on computer personnel entering or exiting FOD critical areas.
Logs in and out all shop consumables, small parts and tools.
Verifies proper tethering and stowage procedures are followed and performs FOD checks at the end of each shift.
Monitors oxygen levels for confined spaces while area has an active permit until closeout
Keeps consumables and PPE restocked
Performs 5S/area organization tasks as assigned
Additional support for factory optimization lean activities

Additional:
This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.
This is a NASA safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location option.
This position is for 1st shift for training- then may shift to 2nd or 3rd shift. Variable shifts may be required subject to business needs. Contractors must be able work all shifts to meet business needs. Do submit candidates who are unable to work all shifts.


Work Environment: (edit for specific job)
Lift up to 25 pounds (Occasional lifting of 21-35 pounds), bend and twist at the waist, walk, crawl, crouch, stand for long periods, kneel, reach, climb/balance, flexion/extension
Contact with sealants and solvents, exposure to noise, working on elevated platforms
Use personal protective gear for face, eyes, ears, hand, and arms as required.
Pass visual acuity and color perception tests
Read, write, and comprehend the English language
Handle, use, and dispose of hazardous material
Obtain & maintain training certifications as required to support assignment responsibilities
Occasional (1 to 3 hrs.) finger manipulation
On occasion, a 2-person lift may be necessary for weights greater than 50 lbs.
Frequent reaching overhead (3 to 6 hrs.)
Frequent walking on flat surfaces
Frequent standing flat or uneven surfaces
Frequent balancing on a ladder, steps, or uneven surfaces
Occasional climbing on 3-12 ft. ladders or stands
Rotation of head/neck, sitting, crawling, squatting, bend/stoop, lying down, and operate foot controls
Occasional contact with metals
Exposure to plastics and solvents to atmospheric conditions
Frequent exposure to noise

Minimum Education Requirement: GED / HS Diploma

Schedule: Contractor must be able to work variable shifts - 1st, 2nd 3rd; Overtime is scheduled based on business needs and may include weekend hours
