Welding Engineer

Description:
Nesco Resource is currently seeking a Weld Engineer for a client of ours in the military space in Chandler, AZ. This is a direct hire position and requires a Weld Inspector Certification.



Job Summary:



The Weld Engineer provides technical expertise in welding processes to Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality.

Responsible for providing technical leadership and support to the production team in the fabrication assembly, specific to weld processes, procedures, work instructions, manuals, fixtures, and weld sequences.

Works closely with Design Engineering as an interface to drive design corrections, improvements and/or changes identified and/or originated from the production line or customer.



Will also work as a CWI (Certified Weld Inspector).



Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Weld Design Input to complete in-house designed product, components, systems, etc.

  • Perform tooling design and procurement associated with the welding department

  • Troubleshoot manufacturing processes to obtain RCCAs

  • Create and maintain all production standards and procedures

  • Review production variances

  • Review all new manufactured part designs and standards. Provide Technical Weld Design Information to Design Engineering

  • Provide direct technical support to the production team

  • Specify and procure new equipment, tooling, and technology needed to meet production and quality requirements.

  • Resolve shop issues involving welding equipment and tooling and lead solution implementation

  • Inspects welded joints to ensure welds meet company standards, national code requirements, and customer job specifications

  • Designs weld fixturing, and tooling using SolidWorks software

  • Oversees prototype weldments to establish new product best practices and time standards

  • Liaise with engineering and new products teams to qualify new products and design changes to existing products

  • Other Develops and oversees certification testing for qualification of welders to national codes and customer requirements

  • Assists in the development and documentation of production welding best practices for current product

  • Provides training for Visual Weld Inspection practices and administers written and practical examinations for qualification

  • Supports implementation of new shop floor/equipment layouts to streamline production flow and throughput using Lean Manufacturing concepts

  • Drafts work instructions and/or shop SOP's

  • Other duties as required




Minimum Requirements of Skills & Experience:


  • B.S. Degree in Engineering and 5-7 years working in a Manufacturing environment as a Weld Engineer

  • 1yr minimum experience as a CWI (Certified Weld Inspector)

  • Must be a US Citizen

  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills

  • Self-motivated

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and training skills

  • Ability to work with little or no supervision

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Solidworks

  • Must be open-minded and flexible, exhibits sensitivity, honesty and integrity

  • Knowledge in welding design, processes, procedures, and best practices

  • Experience with interfacing with suppliers to support process development and cost reduction for new products

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience in working with military specifications and requirements, AS-9100

  • Planning and scheduling abilities

  • Administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, enforcing rules, and making decisions

  • Currently certified as Visual Weld Inspector through either/or AWS or ASNT

  • Lean Manufacturing/ Root Cause Analysis/ Process Improvement
