Quality Engineer (Automotive)

Quality Engineer

Location: Oshkosh, WI
Duration: 12 months

This positions will be focused upon assisting production launch activities for a vehicle platform which has been out of production for a number of years, but is now being brought back into production.
The production environment has changed dramatically since it was last produced and will generate new issues not previously experienced. In addition, the Quality environment has changed dramatically since the vehicle platform was originally produced.
We expect PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) to contribute to much of the required engineering effort as the supporting effort will require production documents and part prints to be revised.
There will be a need to be detail oriented for these issues. The vehicle platform has not previously been subject to the PPAP process and many issues are expected to emerge with the production restart.
In addition, there is a parallel effort to design a second variant on this platform which will require new part designs and prints created.
With every Engineering Change Notice there is much design detail direction and checking which will require attention to design finer points.
This effort would be conducted under guidance of the platform lead engineer.

Perform high level, non-supervisory engineering analysis and design of new and modified components in accordance with engineering standards and project scope.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Researches, studies, and proposes use of new technologies to be used in the development of new and improved products
- Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues
- Enforce the proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards. Ensure that technical issues are conducted within the framework of company policies and procedures
- Evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability
- Directs preparation of layouts, drawings, specifications, and bills of material
- Perform engineering analysis to support the selection of parts, components, and materials that meet requirements
- Perform job duties in an ethical, professional manner which is consistent with the Client Way. Conduct duties consistent with the Company’s mission statement, quality objectives, and defined policies and procedures
- Provide technical assistance for prototype, pilot, and production support
- Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering via verbal or written communication
- Provide direction to designers and drafters regarding engineering analysis
- Establishes priorities for work delegated to others
- Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations
- Able to obtain a secret security clearance as required by job duties

Basic qualifications:
- Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering
- 3-plus years related experience
Must meet ITAR requirements

Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with a high level cad system
- Possess a strong mechanical knowledge of vehicles and related systems
- Strong verbal presentation and written communication skills
- Excellent time management and organizational skills

A few more details from call with the manager:
Involve in-product platforms
Troubleshooting to understand what production line is experiencing, then establish what engineers need to do to fix problem; alter print package or get involved in changes to work instruction on production line (others complete the work but needs to understand what needs to be changed, updated and driven in to documentation).
Expectation to be on shop floor as needed. Other Eng have that as primary role, need to be a liaison b/w office and shop floor support engineers.
Should have a good understanding of CAD, however likely will not be involved in actual CAD work, needs to understand design and drawings and be able to assist designers with design concept.
