Senior Stress Engineer

Description:
General Summary: 
The Senior Stress Engineer serves as the subject matter expert to stress engineers in composite and metallic primary structure group. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Serves as subject matter expert stress engineer responsible for metallic primary structure.
  2. Provides leadership and guidance to stress engineers working on certification, analysis and testing.
  3. Works directly with FAA DER’s on structural testing.
  4. Explains and presents metallic structural analysis and assumptions in a rational and logical manner.
  5. Makes recommendations and provides status updates to management.

 
Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:
  1. Bachelors’ degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited four year college or university; Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  2. Master’s in Science in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering a plus.
  3. 8+ years of directly related stress experience with metallic structures is required.
  4. Previous experience writing certification stress reports is required.
  5. FAA DER (14CFR 23/25) is a plus.

 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Working knowledge and competency of both classic hand analysis methods (i.e. - Bruhn, Peery, Roark, ESDU) as well as FEA.
  2. Working knowledge of 3D solid modeling (i.e. - CATIA v5, Unigraphics).
  3. Working knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (i.e. - NASTRAN, ABAQUS).
  4. Working knowledge of programming languages (i.e. - Python, VB Matlab).
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Lotus Notes.
  6. Ability to explain and present analysis and assumptions in a rational manner.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively through all level throughout the organization.
  8. Ability to work independently or within a team oriented environment.

 
 
Physical Requirements:

  1. Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
  2. Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
  3. Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).
  4. Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
  5. Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.
  6. Effectively communicate in Business English language.
  7. Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.
  8. Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided “reach assistance technology” or “movement assist technology” (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly’s, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.
