Composites Tooling Engineer

Description:
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Composite Tooling Engineer in our Airframe and Composite Design group in San Diego, CA.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Provides expertise in tooling design for both large and small composite laminates including primary structure and control surfaces.
  • Understands composite tooling theory and the selection of appropriate tooling material for the application and/or production volume required.
  • Applies technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve assigned engineering problems encountered on the production floor with regard to damaged tooling.
  • Applies engineering principles effectively for design, development and sustaining engineering activities related to aircraft systems integration and installation.
  • Documents findings, communicates results to engineering staff, makes technical presentations and may represent the organization as the prime technical contact on small identifiable projects.
  • Advises management of work in progress, material availability and potential problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and/or services are provided as needed.
  • Person will be responsible for working with personnel throughout the company to help resolve any engineering related tooling issue that may impact the manufacturing delivery schedule.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Exposure to various composite manufacturing processes and tooling concepts.
  • Experience with Pro-E Cad software.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Essential Qualifications
Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
Must have a complete understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties. Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one engineering area; and, lead a team of less experienced professional employees on semi-routine tasks. Able to work extended hours as required. A Professional Engineering License is desirable.

•Background with various composite tooling design is preferred. 
•Experienced with a CAD program; Creo, Solidworks, etc. 
•Ability to present information to internal and external customers. 
•Able to work extended hours as required. 

•A Professional Engineering License is desirable.
