|GENERAL FUNCTION: |
Under the supervision of a Test Manager, the Test Engineer/Conductor is responsible for performing the tests of assigned programs as well as engineering solutions to testing issues. As a Test Conductor, the incumbent will set up and perform tests, measure and record test data, and review and analyze test results.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Test Department has the responsibility of managing, overseeing and performing test of all end products. The majority of the products are high precision electromechanical & electro-hydraulic devices used on commercial aircraft. Therefore, each hardware must undergo rigorous tests in ambient, vibration, thermal and vacuum conditions. This requires test procedures to be written, test schedules to be generated and maintained, and products to be tested and managed until delivery.
The Test Engineer/Conductor will be involved in a program from the early stage to the completion of the program. The Test Engineer/Conductor may perform research and estimating during the proposal phase, deal directly with the program manager, the project engineer, and to a limited extent, the customer in defining test requirements and parameters, and work with and/or direct technicians to perform tests.
The Test Engineer/Conductor will be responsible for performing and overseeing electrical, mechanical, functional, environmental, and examination tests. This will involve manual set up of test, actual performance and monitoring of test, manual and automated measuring and recording of test data, and computer assisted analysis of the test results. Therefore the incumbent should be comfortable with hands-on type of work, have high attention to detail, have background or previous experience with computer programming, and be proficient with the computer and MS Office tools. The incumbent will learn to operate motors and motor drivers, use various electronic measurement devices, operate thermal vacuum chambers and vibration shaker, and generate a variety of mechanical test setups from written procedures.
The Test Engineer/Conductor will also be responsible in supporting the Test Manager in various engineering tasks. This will involve researching and defining test parameters and methods as well as generating test procedures and reports. It will also involve reviewing and verifying test results, troubleshooting and fact-finding test discrepancies, updating or modifying work instructions, maintaining test schedule, and directing and overseeing technicians to a limited extent. Therefore the incumbent should have excellent communication and organizational skills, proficiency in technical writing, and good analytical skills. The incumbent should also be a quick learner, self-motivated, work well in a team environment, multi-task, and take ownership of a task with minimal supervision.
Since this is an entry-level position, no experience is required. However, the incumbent should have the following requirements:
1. B.S. in engineering or related field.
As a Test Engineer/Conductor, incumbent’s principle responsibilities include:
1. Setting up and performing tests; measuring, recording, and analyzing test data with minimum error and maximum efficiency.
2. Setting up, sustaining, and monitoring environmental tests (thermal vacuum, oven, vibration).
3. Troubleshooting to resolve test discrepancies.
4. Writing test procedures & Reports (which require a thorough understanding of the product, requirements, and the associated tests) and updating or modifying work instructions.
5. To a limited extent, interfacing with the customer during program reviews and customer meetings to determine testing requirements and methods.
