Propulsion Design Engineer

Description:
Location: Cape Canaveral, FL
Duration: 1 Year W2 Contract
Pay Rate: DOE
Shift: 1st Shift

Job Description:
This engineering function provides Propulsion design, for Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) systems (Pneumatics and Hydraulics panel system). Develops system, mechanism and component model design and drawings to satisfy overall requirements. The position requires significant design and drafting capability. Must have the capability to perform optimize designs for manufacturing, producibility, testing and performance. Develop design improvements that reduce cost and risk and/or improve vehicle performance. Generates engineering drawings as well as assembly and testing requirements. Tasks may involve new designs or modifications to existing designs. The individual is expected to work collaboratively with mechanical engineers as well as representatives from Cape Canaveral Launch Operations.

Basic Requirements:
- Mechanical Design degree from an accredited university and 10+ years of experience in mechanical design field.
- Proficiency with design utilizing Siemens NX, AutoCAD and CREO
- Expert with commodities design
- Goal oriented with an acute attention to detail
- Team player with the ability to adapt within a dynamics working environment

Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge of Siemens Teamcenter design release process
- Knowledge of Aerospace design

Additional Information:
- This engineering function provides engineering design, systems integration, subcontract management, product technical support and anomaly resolution for the Propulsion fluids systems (cryogenic, non-cryogenic, hydraulics and pneumatics).
- Develops system and component designs and requirements to satisfy overall propulsion systems requirements.
- The position requires mechanical design capability as well as understanding dynamic, structural and fluids analysis concepts.
- Must have the capability to perform system integration and perform system level trade studies to optimize designs for manufacturing, Productivity and performance.
- Generates engineering drawings as well as assembly and testing requirements.
- Provides direct support to the suppliers, the factory and the launch site to ensure production schedules are met, resolve anomalies and streamline operations to improve efficiency.
- When anomalies occur, provides causal analysis that leads to effective resolution and corrective actions that prevent recurrence.
- Reviews the as-built product (hardware and associated software) and product test data to certify that the final product configuration and performance meets requirements and is ready for test and/or flight. - Develops design improvements that reduce cost and risk and/or improve vehicle performance.
- Requires a bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of experience.
- Advanced degrees are typically preferred at this level.
- Provides innovative and ingenious solutions to unusually complex engineering/scientific problems.
- Problems typically are complicated by incomplete or conflicting data and incompatible objectives.
- Viewed as an expert in the field within the company.
- Develops advanced ideas and guides their development and implementation into the final product.
- These innovations significantly affect the business.

- May be a CRE for complex system or subsystems.
