Sr. M&P Engineer

Description:
General Summary
Senior Materials and Processes Engineer with expertise in airframe engineering drawing support. Experience with materials (metallic, composite, and non-metallic), fabrication, finishing, corrosion control, test methodology, project direction, statistical analysis, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), repair techniques, and Material Review Board actions.


Duties & Responsibilities
1. Reviews and approves engineering drawings for Materials and Processes (M&P) requirements
2. Creates, maintains, interprets, and applies M&P specifications (metal fabrication, welding, heat treatment, casting, liquid penetrant inspection, ultrasonic inspection, fasteners, metal-bonding, composite fabrication, and corrosion protection)
3. Interacts with suppliers of parts, assemblies and materials
4. Supports Production Material Review Board and Service Center liason actions for M&P discrepancies
5. Provides engineering expertise for metallic, composite, and non-metallic technologies (i.e. sealants, finishes, etc.)
6. Supports test houses, Procurement, and in-service aircraft
7. Travels as required for M&P issues
Qualifications


Education & Work Experience:
1. BS and/or MS Materials Science and Engineering
2. 10+ years of related work experience in aviation, aerospace or similar industry


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
1. Strong technical writing skills for specifications, standards, test plans and test results reports.
2. Excellent listening, written and oral communication skills.
3. Proficient computer skills with CATIA V, TeamCenter, MS Office, CMH STATS, SAP, and Lotus Notes.
4. Proficient at interrogating 3D engineering models in CATIA V5 for details and assemblies.
5. Proficient at applying M&P requirements on engineering drawings for M&P requirements. Knowledge of M&P requirements for standard parts (i.e. fasteners, bushings, fittings, etc.).
6. Ability to comprehend and apply FAA regulations, technical guidance and requirements for airframe design during Type Certification and Production phases of an aircraft program.
7. Ability to perform statistical analysis of data from material qualification test programs and generates design allowables and material specification values.
8. Expertise in corrosion protection for aircraft design and evaluating corrosion issues for in-service aircraft.
9. Experience at interfacing with FAA Aircraft Certification Office (ACO) and Manufacturing Inspection District Office (MIDO) organizations is a plus.
10. Current or prior FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) for Metallic and/or Non-Metallic M&P is a major plus.
11. Non-Destructive Testing expertise and/or NAS410 certification in any technique is a major plus.
12. Knowledge of Material Review Board (MRB) actions for M&P discrepancies. MRB authority is a plus.
13. Knowledge of physical testing and mechanical testing of metallic and/or composite materials and structure is a plus.
14. Ability to mentor and /or lead less experienced engineers and technicians.
