Mechanical Design Engineer - Dynamic Systems

Description:
***REMOTE TO START, BUT EVENTUALLY ONSITE***


Seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design parts of the drive system. Qualified candidates will be responsible for designing, and analyzing sophisticated dynamic system components and assemblies for the aircraft. This role requires the candidate to thrive in a high paced environment and be comfortable with the design, development, and test life cycle of rapid aerospace R&D. This role will include interfacing with engineering management, certification authorities, operations, external suppliers, and fellow design engineers and analysts, so strong communication and inter-personal skills are required.


Roles and Responsibilities:
• Design mechanical parts and assemblies for critical drive systems
o Includes gears, shafts, housings, bearings, propeller hubs, blade pitch control mechanisms, and electrical motors
• Create CAD parts and assemblies, create drawings for manufacture, assembly instructions
• Perform initial sizing of parts and components
o Hand calculations, spreadsheets, initial FEA/FEM
• Review other mechanical designs and drawings
o Review for design intent, sizing, manufacturability, and GD&T
• Support initial builds and manufacture by close collaboration with the machine shop
• Support developmental test efforts (ground and flight)


Required Qualifications:
• Minimum of 3 years of professional industry experience
• BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field
• Highly experienced in 3D CAD and model setup using 3DExperience (preferred), CATIA V5/V6, SolidWorks or equivalent
• Highly skilled in generating detailed drawings, GD&T to ASME Y14.5-2009 standards
• Strong mechanical design aptitude and analytical mindset and a track record of mechanical system design in weight critical applications
• Extensive understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and analysis methods for structures, assemblies, mechanisms, and joints


Desired Qualifications:
• Extensive Experience with finite element analytical tools such as HyperMesh OptiStruct or Nastran, ANSYS or similar
• Experience in mechanism design and kinematics
• Experience with composite structures and applications
• Familiarity with component and sub-system FAA certification testing is a plus
• Prior experience preparing certification plans and reports, and interacting directly with FAA specialists or Designees, is highly desirable
