Stress Engineer

Description:
Experience with metallic honeycomb structures highly desirable

Key Responsibilities
  • Research, develop, analyze, design, and test company products or processes using engineering and scientific principles to implement engineering solutions to meet organizational objectives.
  • Analyze and verify product or process design and product performance to customer requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring product (including parts, assemblies or tools) are consistent with company and customer quality standards. 
  • Research and develop material and processes that support the translation from abstract concepts to functional products.
  • Apply knowledge of engineering and scientific methods and tools to define and characterize behavior of products and processes. 
  • Integrate technical, cost, value and safety considerations into the product definition to comply with customer, regulatory and company requirements.  Document results in drawings, data sets, reports, specifications and supporting data.
  • Interface with other members of project or program team, management and manufacturing staff to facilitate the implementation of manufacturing process improvement initiatives
  • Develop engineering solutions to a wide range of complex technical problems, requiring ingenuity and innovation.  Exercise broad latitude in determining technical solutions. 
  • Review and approve detail design documentation
    • Resolve product design problems in conjunction with technical customer representatives and assist in implementation of resolutions
    • Participate in MRB activities to assure structural  adequacy of non-conformances
    • Supports and directs the preparation of accurate and complete engineering assessments for new platform technologies

  • Establishes and maintains valid structural analysis methodology to substantiate component design
  • Interfaces daily with various departments at various technical and management levels.
    • Prepare, and present technical engineering reviews to both external and internal customers

  • Makes presentations at a senior level internally and externally demonstrating ability to clearly communicate to the audience

 
Qualifications / Experience

  • Requires a 4-year degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
  • 8+ years' experience as a Structural Analyst and/or Stress Engineer required
  • Knowledge of classical analysis methods for static and fatigue analysis required
  • Highly experienced in MSC Patran/Nastran preferred
  • Component design and analytical problem solving experience in an engineering environment.
  • US citizenship required due to U.S. Government/military information access requirements. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements. Individuals may also be subject to a background investigation to include but not limited to: criminal history, employment and education verification, drug testing, and credit worthiness. This clearance must be maintained during employment.

  • Use of Unigraphics, & Catia V5 for basic design concepts, and review of technical content

 
Desirable

  • Experience in design using advanced materials, and fabrication technologies
  • Knowledge in the use of Mechanical Computer Aided Design (CAD)
  • Previous experience of R&D and Conceptual Design teams
  • Knowledge of General Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
