Procurement Engineer - Level 1

PDS Tech, Inc. is seeking a Procurement Engineer- Level 1  for an open position in Orlando, FL.
Job Description: 
  • Candidate will work with an integrated team including production operations, suppliers, sourcing, test engineers and other functional personnel to review and establish procurement quality flow-down requirements for commodity purchase requisitions, resolve procurement issues as well as complex supplier challenges
  • Ensure nonconformances are identified, trended and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Responsibilities include performing root cause analysis, validating corrective and preventive actions attributed to factors that include supplier, design, production, process, software.<br/>As a vital member of the team, a Procurement Quality Engineer evaluates the designs, both electrical and mechanical, to ensure a producible product is being proposed and the supply base has processes in place for a smooth production flow.
  • Evaluates and determines usage decisions on purchased parts and materials for conformity to functional performance, electrical, mechanical and system requirements, standards, specifications, and processing requirements using predetermined methods and in some cases may determine methods and sequences.
  • Verifications will include using such measuring devices as micrometers, gauges, and calipers.
  • Visually inspects for obvious defects or damage such as corrosion, cracks, dents, scratches, and pits. Verifies specifications using purchase orders, blueprints, drawing or inspection instructions, and checklists.
  • Makes pass/fail decisions on inspected goods.
  • May improvise or adapt inspection and measuring devices as needed.
  • May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
  • Maintains records of results.
  • Candidate will serve as a liaison to the hourly inspector for technical expertise and problem resolution.
  • Individual shall build strong relationship with Receiving, Supplier Quality Engineering and Production Ops personnel and serve as the Non-conforming Area P.O.C.

Mandatory Skills:
  • A Bachelor’s degree from a technical field or 4 yrs of related of professional/technical experience.
  • Inspection and auditing skills in an operational mfg. setting Basic Computer Skills - MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) SAP (COS / P2P) proficiency Root Cause Analysis training. Auditing and inspection experience.
  • Strong communications skills - verbal/written Interpersonal Skills Work Independently Self Starter
  • Strong understanding of engineering requirements
  • Must be able to identify and document supplier's quality deficiencies and ensure effective corrective action
  • Capable of performing root cause analysis and identifying solutions to complex problems
  • Understanding engineering drawings requirements mechanical and electrical inspection methods
  • A basic understanding of special processes and an overall understanding of how to manage and interface with suppliers on a daily bases to support the Program
  • Ability to focus on continual improvement practices using causal analysis tools to drive corrective and preventive actions
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of critical design attributes and auditing capabilities
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a dynamic environment, multi-task, meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written) will be necessary to support the assignment and weekly reports
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and interface with Quality Program Management, Engineering, Supplier Quality Management, Sub-contracts (Buyers) and Government Representatives
  • This position will be located at a facility that requires special access and requires the selected candidate to be a US Citizen

  • A basic understanding of the MFC SAP and P2P business systems
  • ASQ Certification or Lean Six Sigma Certification (Green Belt/Black Belt)
  • Experience with working with suppliers in a dynamic environment
  • Experience with performing First Article Inspections to AS9102 requirements
  • Experience with source inspection and surveillance activities at suppliers
  • Strong understanding of AS9100 and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems<br/>
