Tool Designer SSC

Description:
SUMMARY:
Design tooling and equipment to be used in the manufacture of large carbon fiber parts and assemblies for aircraft production. Provide tooling concepts from basic engineering surfaces and customer statement of work. Provide complete tool models and designs for tooling manufacture to customer statement of work and specifications. Seasoned professional required that understands all aspects tool design & manufacture. Used to working in a “job shop” environment. Fully conversant in Catia V5 (R18 thru R23).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Create tool designs from customer supplied part models and specifications.
• Perform - PDR / CDR / FDR – Design reviews with customer.
• Internal interface with Project Manager, Programming and Manufacturing departments including Inspection.
• Load models and engineering, interrogate models, create tooling surfaces.
• Create and release designs / models with con-current design build philosophy.
• Generate and supply data for off-site fabrication.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Will consider a combination of education and experience providing the required skills and knowledge for successful performance in a large manufacturing, job shop environment are met.

• Must be a U.S Citizen and not hold multiple citizenships.
• Must possess Secret Security Clearance and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.
• Engineering/ Manufacturing / Job Shop background in aerospace or automotive industries preferred.
• Three years experience with CATIA V5 (V4 and/or V6 is a plus) preferred.

CORE COMPETENCY
• Geometric tolerancing
• Common drafting principals and practices
• Perform Trigonometry, Stress analysis by hand and FEA, Shrink coefficients.
• Knowledge of manufacturing practices; fabrication, machining and assembly.
• Composites part and layup / assembly tool design.
• Broad knowledge of materials and processing, both metallic and composite.
• Effective use of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Five plus years experience with CATIA V5 (V4 and/or V6 is a plus).
• Clear written and oral communication of ideas, designs and status.
• Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Project.
• Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
• Knowledge of common manufacturing methods, material types and processes.
• Freehand concept sketches to quickly communicate and develop designs.
• Previous experience with composites and aerospace layup tooling is a plus.
• Must have good-time management skills.
• Must be proficient with the use of Word, Excel, Outlook, ERP Systems and PowerPoint software.

• Safety and security – the individual actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures, and uses office equipment and materials properly.

• Typically sits for extended periods at a computer workstation.
• Talking, hearing, vision, depth perception, color vision, field of vision.
• Will work in the manufacturing, fabrication and machine shop.
• The work environment is typical of a manufacturing setting where hazardous materials may be present.
• Will occasionally work in the manufacturing, fabrication and machine shop.
• The employee may be exposed to vibration.
• The employee will occasionally work with caustic chemicals.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• May be required to travel to other site locations.
• May be required to work OT up to 12 hours and weekends to meet department and business demands.
• Work with safe manufacturing processes and understands PPE that is required in the manufacturing area.
• Knows the purpose and location of Material Safety Data Sheets.
