Job Summary:
Ensures timely and efficient completion of engineering projects to achieve company, customer, and product reliability and cost objectives. Has overall responsibility for leading technical projects or phases of projects involving the sustainment and improvement of production products (hydraulic flight control servoactuators) and/or processes. Is responsible for technical scope, cost and schedule management of assigned projects/tasks. Plans, schedules, and coordinates efforts of assigned project staff and is accountable to meet team performance to project objectives. Serves as a technical advisor on major projects. Serves on Material Review Board (MRB), identifies repair and salvage plans for fielded hardware, derives appropriate level of qualification testing for product improvements, collaborates directly with the customers and suppliers. Projects at this level are assigned to develop project management and leadership skills and to build knowledge of the organization, processes, and customers.

Essential Functions:
1. Develops project objectives by reviewing technical project proposals and plans and conferring with management and related teams. Ensures projects meet schedule commitments, cost (non‐recurring and recurring) results, and technical expectations through effective project leadership.
2. Creates project plans and milestones by studying product or system design and customer technical program requirements (including performance and data requirements), completing technical studies; and preparing cost estimates. Determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements and assigning staffing and resources.
3. Maintains frequent formal and informal customer interface to present project status; determines feasibility of changing customer requirements and may propose and/or negotiate changes in schedules or methodology in coordination with program management. Gains customer confidence in overall support of customer programs.
4. Controls the project plan by reviewing any changes in technical requirements or specifications (e.g. requirements management) and recommending actions to achieve milestones. Controls project costs by reviewing non-recurring and recurring costs, monitoring and approving quotes and expenditures; may administer and have oversight for outsourced contractors. Maintains efforts within defined cost and schedule constraints, including statusing and root cause/corrective actions of associated variances. May act as Control Account Manager for projects applying Earned Value Management.
5. Prepares and reviews technical project work prepared by others (e.g. system schematics, layouts, algorithms, transfer functions and related test plans, procedures and reports) by applying engineering principles and technical judgment. Advises and monitors regulatory and intellectual property concerns.
6. Ensures consistent engineering standards, processes, and documentation methods are used in project deliverables. Establishes and maintains engineering history files, project files, and related information to provide archive of technical project activities.
7. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, benchmarking best practices, and/or participating in professional associations.
8. Acts as point of contact on technical and project-related matters. Identifies mentoring and development needs; serves as a mentor for other employees. May serve as a functional specialist. Revises engineering drawings to resolve design issues, particularly to improve first pass yield or cost. Serves as technical point of contact for continuous improvement projects.
9. Interfaces with suppliers to improve designs or processes.
10. Identifies projects that will deliver significant cost savings, first pass yield improvements, and/or quality improvements for the division. Serves as key contributor to the cost benefit analysis of new projects.
11. May serve on material review board (MRB). Uses Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing background to perform tolerance stackups and improve engineering drawings.


1. Develops conceptual and detailed product repairs by analyzing performance and customer requirements. Investigates design factors such as function, materials, performance, interchangeability, cost (non‐recurring and recurring), operational efficiency, and contractual requirements.
2. Applies scientific analysis and GD&T to predict and measure the outcome and consequence of hardware discrepancies. Interprets and validates test or measurement results for accuracy and precision. Recommends product test procedures and parameters to achieve customer and product reliability and safety standards (e.g. failure analysis).
3. Provides technical information for review with product engineering teams using established engineering practices, standards, and documentation methods (e.g. structured design process; customer design reviews). Writes supporting documentation for dispositions and technical reports; may write technical responses or proposals for customers.
4. Contributes to the completion milestones associated with specific projects (e.g. review detailed drawings and schematics; analyze material requirements; research customer requirements). Maintain efforts
within defined cost and schedule constraints including statusing and root cause/corrective actions of associated variances.
5. Reviews product specifications to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards and procedures. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions, engineering change orders, and improvements to engineering
management or the project team.
6. Maintains and further develops professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and/or participating in professional associations.
7. Shares specialized knowledge with others. Assigned to mentor new
employees. May represent the company on specific projects or engineering tasks. Primarily serves on Material Review Board (MRB) and provides technical evaluation of discrepant hardware and recommends disposition for the hardware (use as is, repair, rework, scrap) based on design requirements, application, and engineering expertise. Must be well versed in manufacturing processes and work closely with stress, manufacturing and quality engineers to define root cause and implement corrective actions. Supports continuous improvement events. Develops and recommends solutions to hardware discrepancies for complex or specialized components, to ensure that design objectives are met. Applies engineering principles in product evaluations. Researches, analyzes, designs, and tests component parts, processes, or systems to develop improvements to existing products. Develops design solutions within project boundaries including program scope, cost and schedule constraints.

· Bachelor degree (BS) (or Professional Engineer (PE) certificate) in mechanical or aerospace engineering or a science technical discipline; Masters degree (MS) or MBA preferred.

· Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 7-9 years of related experience. Production or operations exposure is preferred.

· Has thorough in-depth knowledge of engineering domain principles, concepts, product standards, and techniques, industry practices, regulations, and policies. Ability to apply broad knowledge of other related engineering or scientific field to area of expertise. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting background. Demonstrated ability to use methodical approach to root cause/corrective action.

· Ability to effectively communicate and present status, actions, recommendations, and other technical information with clarity and precision. Ability to respond to significant inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or marketing/sales teams.

· Effective project management and organizational skills. Able to facilitate project team interactions and develop project team member capabilities.

· Ability to apply and integrate knowledge of other related engineering areas or experts to own area of expertise.

· Proficient with software and specialized data analysis, design (Catia V5), and project management tools following established project/program management protocol.

· Propensity for hands-on work with regards to assembly and test of hardware (mechanically inclined).

· Ability to establish and track performance to goals and objectives to complete complex or major projects and provide direction to the team at project milestones.

· Proficient with standard project management tools and practices.

· Ability to apply Earned Value Management (EVM) principles to manage scope, schedule and cost objectives.
